16. The Role of Impaired Interatrial Conduction in Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to evaluate the role of interatrial conduction defects in the genesis of lone paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (AF) using combined approach of non-invasive signal-averaged P-wave ECG, invasive electrophysiological (EP) studies, anatomical studies and animal experiments. Non-filtered signal-averaged P-wave ECG revealed irregularities in orthogonal P-wave morphology and the presence of double-peaked configurations of P-wave spatial magnitude in patients with lone paroxysmal AF compared with healthy individuals (I), suggesting the presence of interatrial conduction delays localised in the posterior-inferior interatrial route. 17. From Parasitoids to Gall Inducers and Inquilines : Morphological Evolution in Cynipoid Wasps
Sammanfattning : One of the large lineages of parasitic wasps, the Cynipoidea, exhibits three distinctly different life modes. Slightly more than half of the about 3000 species are parasitoids in insect larvae, whereas the remaining species are associated with plants, either as gall inducers or as inquilines (guests feeding on plant tissue in galls). 18. Image Analysis and Visualization of the Human Mastoid Air Cell System
Sammanfattning : From an engineering background, it is often believed that the human anatomy has already been fully described. Radiology has greatly contributed to understand the inside of the human body without surgical intervention. LÄS MER
19. Effects of nonlinear noise reduction algorithms on image quality in computed tomography systems. Evaluations using human observers and methods for assessing distortion
Sammanfattning : Many conventional radiological examinations have during the past decades been replaced by examinations performed on computed tomography (CT) systems. One reason is that a CT system, in contrast to a conventional X-ray system, depicts slices of the body so that anatomical structures to a lesser extent risk to obscure the potential pathology. 20. Diffusion Tensor Imaging and Tractography of the Visual Pathways
Sammanfattning : The visual pathways are essential for human vision, stretching from the retinas of the eyes, via the anterior visual pathways and the optic radiations, to the primary visual cortex in the occipital lobe. Injury to these structures will lead to visual impairment – from small deficits to blindness. LÄS MER
