1. Oesophageal Resection with Gastric Tube Reconstruction - A clinical study of a surgical method and its consequences on the upper gastrointestinal tract and survival
Sammanfattning : In a prospective randomised study following oesophagectomy and gastric tube reconstruction patients with hand-sutured neck anastomoses were compared with patients with circular stapled chest anastomoses. The two groups had equal rates of anastomotic or conduit leaks of 7.3 % (3/41) and 7.1 % (3/42) and of benign anastomotic strictures of 19. LÄS MER
2. Colonic pouch anastomosis after rectal excision for cancer
Sammanfattning : Anastomoses at the level of the pelvic floor will become increasingly more common in rectal cancer surgery when total mesorectal excision is used as a standard procedure to obtain local mdicality. A consequence of such low anastomoses is increased risk of healing disturbances and poor distal bowel function, The aim of this thesis was to focus on reconstruction after total mesorectal excision. 3. Experimental studies on the role of the gastrointestinal microflora in postsurgical adhesion formation
Sammanfattning : Introduction: Adhesions occurring after any kind of surgery is a common phenomenon and cause a great deal of morbidity and mortality, incurring a considerable burden on health care systems. Adhesions are especially prominent after lower abdominal and gynecological procedures (60-90 % of patients after one operation) causing infertility, pain syndromes and bowel obstruction as well as complicating subsequent surgery. 4. Uterus transplantation: An experimental study in primates
Sammanfattning : Most causes of infertility are nowadays treatable, but for women that are infertile due to lack of, or severe malfunction of the uterus, there is as of today no available cure. Uterus transplantation (UTx) may provide a future possibility for treatment of these females with uterine factor infertility (UFI). LÄS MER
5. Towards surgical use of matrix metalloproteinase biology
Sammanfattning : Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), such as collagenases, are a family of enzymes capable of degrading most constituents of the extracellular matrix. MMPs are thought to be involved in the aetiopathogenesis of tendon rupture. Additionally, failure of healing has in some instances been associated with elevated levels of MMPs. LÄS MER
