21. Urea and Non-Protein Nitrogen Metabolism in Infants : With Special Reference to the Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS)
Sammanfattning : A large amount of non-protein nitrogen, in the form of urea and ammonium, is present in human breastmilk; however its physiological role in the infant is as yet not fully understood. It has been hypothesized that an insufficient enteric metabolism of urea could play a role in the sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). LÄS MER
22. The Intensive Care Unit syndrome/delirium, patients' perspective and clinical signs

The condition of the illness, the specific caring situation and the environment lead to significant changes and effects in the senses and perceptional abilities. LÄS MER
23. Interventional pain management focused on zygapophysial joint pain : a health-economic evaluation
Sammanfattning : The pain-system is a central mechanism in our life. Chronic pain is one of the major causes of impaired health-related quality of life according to the World Health Organization’s “Global Burden of Disease”-studies. Zygapophysial joint pain has been shown to account for the pain in 30% - 50% of patients with chronic pain. LÄS MER
24. Experimental and clinical studies on the antiemetic effects of propofol
Sammanfattning : Postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) is still a clinical problem and its incidence is unacceptably high. After the introduction of propofol as an agent for induction and maintenance of anesthesia, it was reported that the incidence of PONV was lower. It was also proposed that propofol possesses antiemetic effects. LÄS MER
25. Postoperative Intrathecal Pain Treatment in Children
Sammanfattning : Selective dorsal rhizotomy (SDR) is an effective operations method that successfully decreased the degree of spasticity with long lasting beneficial effects for children with spastic diplegia. Children undergoing SDR are postoperatively in severe pain, a pain related to both the extensive surgical exposure with multilevel laminotomy and the nerve root manipulation. LÄS MER
