11. Chiral recognition on cellulases : The active sites of the enzymes are involved
Sammanfattning : Two cellobiohydrolases (CBH I and CBH II) and endoglucanase I (EG I) fromTrichoderma reesei, and CBH 58 from Phanerochaete chrysosporium were immobilized onsilica as chiral stationary phases (CSPs) in HPLC for enantioseparation of a group ofpharmaceutical compounds. CBH I and CBH 58 wore excellent chiral selectors for β-adrenergic blocking agents, whereas CBH II displayed good enantioselectivity for someother compounds The CBHs share the common feature that their active sites are located intunnels. 12. Multi-functional Hyaluronan Based Biomaterials for Biomedical Applications
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents strategies for constructing multi-functional biomaterials based on hyaluronan (HA) derivatives for various biomedical applications, such as drug delivery, tissue regeneration, and imaging biomaterials. The aim of this study is to improve the functionalities of HA biomaterials as well as simplify the preparation procedures. LÄS MER
13. Uncovering novel cell wall chemistries in gram negative bacteria : from development or dedicated peptidoglycan chemometric tools to functional genomics
Sammanfattning : Bacteria are surrounded by an external cell wall whose main component is a polymeric net-like structure called the peptidoglycan (PG) or murein sacculus. PG plays crucial roles in bacterial physiology (eg morphogenesis, growth fitness and regulation of innate immunity). LÄS MER
14. Shining light on unknown function proteins
Sammanfattning : The study of protein structure and function is a fundamental step for understanding biological systems and for creating a solid ground for future drug development. Despite the development of novel ground-breaking biochemical and bioinformatical tools in the last decades, most proteins found in nature still have unknown assigned function. LÄS MER
15. Sialic acid-dependent binding specificities of Helicobacter pylori and influenza virus. Importance of different parts of the binding sequences
Sammanfattning : Many viruses and bacteria adhere to host cell glycoconjugates in a specific manner, utilizing selected carbohydrate sequences. The aim of this work was to investigate at a molecular level the interactions of two important human pathogens, influenza virus and Helicobacter pylori, with sialylated carbohydrate structures.
