1. Making Death Matter : A Feminist Technoscience Study of Alzheimer's Sciences in the Laboratory
Sammanfattning : This thesis is a contribution to feminist laboratory studies and a critical engagement with the natural sciences, or more precisely research on the biochemical workings and deadly relations of Alzheimer’s disease emanating from a year of field work in a Drosophila fly lab. The natural sciences have been a point of fascination within the field of gender studies for decades. LÄS MER
2. Risk factors for development of neurocognitive disorders
Sammanfattning : Vascular risk factors are believed to be involved in dementia development by increasing risk of the most common dementia types, Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and vascular dementia. The aim of this thesis was to study if risk factors affect key brain pathology directly, by using biomarkers for dementia in preclinical stages, and to assess previous findings in a large population-based setting. 3. Alzheimer's disease and dementia with Lewy bodies: Special focus on the role of serpins
Sammanfattning : Serine protease inhibitors (Serpins) are involved in the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative dementia, including the two most common types, Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB). The pathological characteristics of AD include senile plaques, mainly composed of aggregated amyloid-beta peptide (Abeta1-42), but also serpins, and neurofibrillary tangles of hyperphosphorylated tau protein. 4. Amyloid Beta – Biotherapy Target and Biotechnological Tool
Sammanfattning : Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disease characterized primarily by memory impairment and cognitive decline. As of 2020, an estimated 50 million people suffer from Alzheimer’s disease or related dementia and no disease-modifying treatment options are yet approved for clinical practice. LÄS MER
5. Markers of Prognosis in Neurodegenerative Dementia
Sammanfattning : Background: A prognostic marker should provide information about course and outcome of disease, e.g. predict time to a given endpoint or rate of progression due to disease in patients or subgroups of patients. Prognostic markers could be targeted to apply during the entire clinical course or just during distinct stages of the disease. LÄS MER
