6. Beta-amyloid, tau-protein and cystatin C in the pathophysiology of Alzheimer´s disease
Sammanfattning : Alzheimer´s Disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative dementia characterized by the extracellular accumulation of the beta-amyloid (Ab) peptide into plaques and intracellular phosphorylation and accumulation of tau protein into neurofibrillary tangles (NFT). Inflammation due to astrocytic and microglial activation is one of the ongoing processes in the disease giving rise to cytokine production and oxidative stress. LÄS MER
7. Development of proteomic methods for studying cerebrospinal fluid proteins involved in Alzheimer´s disease
Sammanfattning : Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common cause of dementia in western countries. The main neuropathological findings in the AD brain are senile plaques, neurofibrillary tangles and degeneration of neurons and synapses. LÄS MER
8. Oxidative mechanisms in London Familial Alzheimer´s disease and LPS-induced inflammation
Sammanfattning : Alzheimer´s disease (AD) is the most common of the progressive neurodegenerative disorders and is characterized by the formation of Aβ deposits, neurofibrillary tangles and loss of neurons. Additional features of the disease are inflammation, increased oxidative stress and modified iron metabolism. LÄS MER
9. Human brain function evaluated with rCBF-SPECT : memory and pain related changes and new diagnostic possibilities in Alzheimer’s disease
Sammanfattning : The aim of this doctoral thesis was to study the influence of memory, pain, age and education on the regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF), i.e. brain function, in early Alzheimer's disease (AD) and in chronic neck pain patients in comparison to healthy controls and in healthy elderly per se. 10. Neuropsychological Function in Relation to Structural and Functional Brain Changes in Alzheimer’s Disease
Sammanfattning : The aim of this doctoral thesis was to study neuropsychological function in relation to structural and functional brain changes in Alzheimer´s disease (AD). In the first study relations between hippocampal volume, neuropsychological function and limbic-hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (LHPA) axis disturbances in AD were investigated with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
