1. An Insight into the Critical Role of Microstructure and Surface Preparation on Localized Conversion Coating Deposition on Cast Al Alloys
Sammanfattning : The spontaneous cerium conversion coating formation over aluminium alloys is affected by the chemical process conditions, the surface preparation prior to conversion treatment and the microstructure of the underlying alloy. Most research performed until now focus only on the former whereas the influence of the latter two is poorly understood. LÄS MER
2. The influence of Al alloy microstructure on conversion coating formation
Sammanfattning : The formation of conversion coatings based on Ce, trivalent Cr and Ti/Zr is triggered by the local pH increase at cathodic IM sites of the aluminium alloy microstructure. The pH gradient is created over the cathodic intermetallic (IM) sites of the microstructure and its intensity is influenced by their activity which depends on their chemical composition, their size, and spatial distribution. 3. Semi-solid Al-7Si-Mg castings – Microstructure and mechanical properties
Sammanfattning : The use of lightweight parts by the vehicle industry produces immediate benefits on the reduction of emissions because less energy is consumed during the production, service, and recycle stages of a product life cycle. Therefore, the development of processes that allow high design freedom for topology optimisation and materials with high specific strength is a great need. LÄS MER
4. On the influence of Si on anodising and mechanical properties of cast aluminium alloys
Sammanfattning : The combination of two cost-effective processes, i.e. casting and anodising, would be an interest for the aluminium component applications. However, there are some obstacles in the application of anodising on cast Al alloys. LÄS MER
5. Protective and Nanoporous Alumina Films Studied in situ by X-ray and Electrochemical Methods
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, the studies of native and anodic oxides on both aluminum model single crystal surfaces as well as on aluminum alloys found in applications are presented. The focus has been on the characterization in situ as the oxide is growing by an electrochemical process called anodization. LÄS MER
