  1. 11. Neuroendocrine studies in patients with affective disorders

    Författare :Marie Bendix; Jussi Jokinen; Marie Bixo; Viktor Kaldo; Maria Petersson; Anna-Carin Wihlbäck; Wieslaw J. Cubala; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Affective disorder; Suicide attempt; Postpartum depression; Postpartum psychosis; Personality traits; Violence; Oxytocin; Insulin; Glucagon; Allopregnanolone; Progesterone; Estradiol;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Affective disorders are common and a major cause for increased disability and mortality worldwide. Exogenous stressors and biological variables, including neuroendocrine factors, are assumed to contribute to an increased vulnerability to mood dysregulation. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Sex and stress steroid modulation of GABA mediated chloride ion flux in rat CNS

    Författare :Jessica Strömberg; Per Lundgren; Torbjörn Bäckström; David Haage; Esa Korpi; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; allopregnanolone; chloride ion uptake; patch-clamp; 3beta-steroids; kinetic parameters; rat brain; Obstetrics and gynaecology; Obstetrik och gynekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Sex and stress steroids are metabolized to 3a-hydroxy-pregnane-steroid metabolites such as allopregnanolone (Allo) and tetrahydrodeoxycorticosterone (THDOC). Allo and THDOC are neuroactive steroids that are metabolized in the brain and act in brain as potent positive GABAA receptor function modulators. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Is it Just the Hormones? : Sex Steroids, Chronic Stress and Violence in Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder

    Författare :Birgitta Segebladh; Inger Sundström-Poromaa; Marie Bixo; Kristina Gemzell-Danielsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; premenstrual dysphoric disorder; combined oral contraceptive; GnRH agonist; add-back; estradiol; progesterone; chronic stress; intimate partner violence; depression; anxiety; allopregnanolone; Obstetrics and gynaecology; Obstetrik och gynekologi; Obstetrik och gynekologi; Obstetrics and Gynaecology;

    Sammanfattning : Premenstrual depressive symptoms and mood swings affect 3-8% of women in fertile age. The female hormones are believed to be the cause. Progesterone is well studied, but estrogen is not, and either are other causes such as intimate partner violence and chronic stress. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Hormones, Mood and Cognition

    Författare :Kristiina Kask; Inger Sundström Poromaa; Torbjörn Bäckström; Britth-Marie Landgren; Uppsala universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Ovarian steroid hormones are neuroactive steroids with widespread actions in the brain, and are thus able to influence mood, behavior and cognition. In this thesis the effects of progesterone withdrawal and the direct effects of the progesterone metabolite allopregnanolone are evaluated. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Nutritional aspects of behaviour and biology during pregnancy and postpartum

    Författare :Anette Lundqvist; Herbert Sandström; Katarina Hamberg; Torbjörn Bäckström; Johan Hultdin; Margareta Larsson; Umeå universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : BackgroundA well-balanced nutritious diet is important for the pregnant woman and the growing fetus, as well as for their future health. Poor nutrition results from both over-consumption of energy-rich foods which can lead to a higher weight gain than is healthy and under-nutrition of essential nutrients. LÄS MER
