1. Studies on the biological functions of interaction between components in Wnt, TGF-β and HIF pathways for cancer progression
Sammanfattning : Cancer is a disease that involves aggressive changes in the genome and aberrant signals between the living cells. Signalling pathways such as TGF-β (Transforming growth factor-β), Wnt, EGF (epidermal growth factor) and HIF (Hypoxia-inducible factor) evolved to regulate growth and development in mammals. LÄS MER
2. Diversification of TGF-β Signaling in Homeostasis and Disease
Sammanfattning : With the dawn of metazoans, the ability of cells to communicate with each other became of paramount importance in maintaining tissue homeostasis. The transforming growth factor β (TGF-β) signaling pathway, which plays important roles during embryogenesis and in the adult organism, signals via a heterodimeric receptor complex consisting of two type II and two type I receptors. 3. The role of transforming growth factor‐β signaling and hypoxia‐inducible factors in renal cell carcinoma
Sammanfattning : Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is the cancer of the kidneys; about 1100 patients with RCC are diagnosed in Sweden each year. RCC can be classified into several subtypes, clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is most common accounting to about 70% of all RCCs, and also the most lethal; papillary renal cell carcinoma (pRCC) accounts to about 10%‐15%, while chromophobe renal cell carcinoma (chRCC) accounts to about 5% of all RCCs. 4. Smad signaling in hematopoietic stem cell biology
Sammanfattning : Hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) are primitive tissue-specific somatic stem cells, responsible for the maintenance and replenishment of the bone marrow (BM) and subsequently the entire blood system. The never-ending ability to differentiate into all the mature hematopoietic lineages makes these HSCs attractive candidates for use in future regenerative medicine. LÄS MER
5. Regulation of TGF-β Signaling by Post-Translational Modifications
Sammanfattning : Transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) signaling is initiated when the ligand binds to type II and type I serine/threonine kinase receptors at the cell surface. Activated TGF-β type I receptors phosphorylate R-Smads which relocate, together with co-Smads, to the cell nucleus and regulate transcription. LÄS MER
