  1. 1. Coral reefs in the Anthropocene : The effects of stress on coral metabolism and symbiont composition

    Författare :Suzanne Faxneld; Michael Tedengren; Alina Szmant; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Corals; Disturbance; Galaxea fascicularis; ITS2; Metabolism; mtDNA; Pollution; Porites lutea; Symbiodinium; Temperature; Turbinaria mesenterina; Vietnam; Marine Ecotoxicology; marin ekotoxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : Coral reefs constitute some of the most prolific and diverse ecosystems on our planet, but also among the most threatened. This thesis investigates the effects of environmental stressors on corals’ metabolism and symbiont diversity. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Macroalgae in tropical seascapes : regulating factors and functions in the coastal ecosystem

    Författare :Gustaf Lilliesköld Sjöö; Max Troell; Nils Kautsky; Lena Kautsky; Alina Szmant; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Macroalgae; Coral reefs; Nutrients; Herbivory; Ecological functions; East Africa; Regulating factors; Anthropogenic influence; Seaweed farming; Bioindicator; marin ekotoxikologi; Marine Ecotoxicology;

    Sammanfattning : Although macroalgae usually are inconspicuous on pristine coral reefs, they often thrive on reefs that are subjected to various types of anthropogenic disturbance. This thesis consists of five papers and investigates how biomass and composition of macroalgal communities on coral reefs are affected by regulating factors, such as nutrient availability, herbivory, substrate availability and hydrodynamic forces. 3. 3. Human Abuses of Coral Reefs- Adaptive Responses and Regime Transitions

    Författare :Ingrid Nordemar; Nils Kautsky; Michael Tedengren; Hans Kautsky; Alina Szmant; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Coral Reefs; Disturbance; Stress; Adaptive responses; Macroalgae; Ecosystem regimes; Resilience; Competition; Traits; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : During the last few decades, coral reefs have become a disappearing feature of tropical marine environments, and those reefs that do remain are severely threatened. It is understood that humans have greately altered the environment under which these ecosystems previously have thrived and evoloved. LÄS MER
