11. The potential of wetlands for mitigation of eutrophication and brownification
Sammanfattning : Increasing nutrient concentrations (eutrophication) and water color due to dissolved organic matter (brownification) pose continuous threats to freshwater ecosystems worldwide, threatening ecosystem services like drinking water supply. Changing the increasing trends of eutrophication and brownification on our aquatic ecosystems is challenging. LÄS MER
12. Image Analysis for Diagnostics of Insulators with Biological Contamination
Sammanfattning : Composite insulators have a number of advantages compared to conventional insulators. However, the fact that they are more prone to aging is a major drawback. For instance, biological growths, like algae and fungi, have been found to colonize composite insulators, and possibly effecting the performance of the materials. LÄS MER
13. Brominated natural products at different trophic levels in the Baltic Sea : Identification of polybrominated dioxins, hydroxylated and methoxylated diphenyl ethers
Sammanfattning : Over time, the Baltic Sea has been contaminated by increasing discharges of pollutants from human activities. Persistent organic pollutants (POPs) have caused toxic effects in wildlife and excess of nutrients have led to eutrophication. LÄS MER
14. Ecological implications of the production of toxic substances by fish killing phytoplankton species grown under variable N:P-ratios
Sammanfattning : The influence of different nutrient conditions on the production of toxins was studied in certain fishkilling haptophytes (e.g. Prymnesium parvum and Chrysochromulina polylepis). LÄS MER
15. Effects of warming and browning on benthic and pelagic ecosystem components in shallow lakes
Sammanfattning : The majority of lakes on Earth are shallow, unproductive and located at high latitudes. These lakes are experiencing big changes due to climate change, where two environmental drivers operate simultaneously, browning and warming. How they affect lake ecosystems is not well understood.
