  1. 1. Jet Ventilation for Airway Surgery : The Influence of Mode and Frequency on Ventilation Efficacy

    Författare :Robert Sütterlin; Peter Frykholm; Anders Larsson; Ullman Johan; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; jet ventilation; airway obstruction; tracheal stenosis; HFJV; SHFJV; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care;

    Sammanfattning : In surgery for airway obstruction, the anesthetist and the ear-nose-throat surgeon share the approach to the airway and jet ventilation (JV) is a mutually convenient ventilation technique for both parties. As a consequence of the open system jet ventilation is applied in, bedside measurements of lung volumes are cumbersome to perform and thus, there is a lack of studies comparing different modes of JV or investigating the influence of ventilator settings on lung volumes and gas exchange. 2. 2. Experimental studies in jet flows and zero pressure-gradient turbulent boundary layers

    Författare :Ramis Örlü; P. Henrik Alfredsson; Tim B. Nickels; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Axisymmetric jet; swirling jet; coaxial jet; heated jet; zero pressuregradient turbulent boundary layer; wall-bounded turbulent flows; overlap region; passive scalar mixing; hot-wire anemometry; spatial resolution.; Fluid mechanics; Strömningsmekanik;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the description and development of two classical turbulent shear flows, namely free jet and flat plate turbulent boundary layer flows. In both cases new experimental data has been obtained and in the latter case comparisons are also made with data obtained from data bases, both of experimental and numerical origin. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Air jets in ventilation applications

    Författare :Yue Zou; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :Air jet; velocity; ventilation; CFD; measurement;

    Sammanfattning : The purpose of air distribution systems for HVAC is tocreate proper air quality and thermal conditions in an occupiedzone. In mixing type air distribution systems air is suppliedinto a room through various types of outlets and distributed byturbulent air jets. These air jets are the primary factorsaffecting room air motion. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Jet lag and shiftwork : their effects on sleep & sleepiness

    Författare :Arne Lowden; Ulf Landström; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Sleep; alertness; jet lag; activity; EEG; shift work; psykologi; Psychology;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of the studies was to describe the detailed sleep/wake patterns before, during, and after a period of work that forces individuals to deviate from their normal sleep/wake pattern. Possible countermeasures to experienced problems was evaluated in intervention designs. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Turbulent jets in confined spaces : application in mixing ventilation: experimental and numerical studies

    Författare :Taghi Karimipanah; Mats Sandberg; H. A. Awbi; Högskolan i Gävle; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; turbulent; wall jet; impinging jet; free jet; confinement effect; pressure; throw; experimental; numerical; corner; momentum; mixing ventilation;

    Sammanfattning : The basis of mixing ventilation is the airflow supply to the room by means of jets initiatedfrom the ventilation diffusers. To avoid the draught problem, the design of mixing ventilationmakes uses the throw term, which is defined as the distance to the supply air terminal inwhich the jet centreline mean velocity is decreased to a given value.
