1. Cerebral arterial pulsatility imaging using 4D flow MRI : methodological development and applications in brain aging
Sammanfattning : 4D flow magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is increasingly recognizedas a versatile tool to assess arterial and venous hemodynamics. Cerebral arterial pulsatility is typically assessed by analyzing flow waveforms over the cardiac cycle, where flow amplitude is a function of cardiac output, central arterial stiffness, and cerebrovascular resistance and compliance. 2. Cerebral blood flow distribution, collateral function and pulsatility in healthy and in patients with symptomatic carotid stenosis : a magnetic resonance imaging approach
Sammanfattning : Background: For the detection and treatment of early cerebral vascular disease it is of paramount importance to first understand the normal physiology of the cerebral vasculature, and subsequently, to understand how and when pathology can develop from that. This is especially important as the population above 65 years of age is increasing and aging itself is an established risk factor for the development of cerebral vascular disease. LÄS MER
3. Aging Hematopoiesis: Functional Insights and Prospects for Rejuvenation
Sammanfattning : Aging exerts profound effects on the hematopoietic system, leading to a loss of homeostatic control and reduced regenerative capacity. Clinical consequences of these changes include anemia, compromised immune function and an increased prevalence of myeloid disorders among the elderlies. LÄS MER
4. On the nature and etiology of chronic achilles tendinopathy
Sammanfattning : The present studies included 362 consecutive patients and 147 healthy controls and were conducted to provide a rational basis for treatment and future research. The major lesion was a focal non-inflammatory tendon degeneration (tendinosis). Twenty per cent of the cases were complicated by a secondary partial rupture. The paratenon was normal. LÄS MER
5. Early Blood Cell Formation "in sickness and health, ´till death do us part"
Sammanfattning : Hematopoietic stem cells (HSC), the ancestors of all blood cells, have the ability to give rise to mature effector cells through a series of developmental steps. This is a tightly regulated, though a highly dynamic process: on the one hand, dysregulation in steady-state could lead to under- or overgrowth of certain blood cell lineages, whereas, on the other hand, demands for certain mature blood cells can change dramatically in cases like bleeding and infections.
