  1. 16. The Urban Tapestry : Essays on the Relationship Between Social Networks and Residential Segregation

    Författare :Laura Fürsich; Maria Brandén; Benjamin Jarvis; Sarah Valdez; Peter Rich; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Social networks; Segregation; Agent-based modeling; Social infrastructure; Residential choice; Analytical sociology; Register data;

    Sammanfattning : Dominant explanations of segregation argue that patterns of spatial residential sorting are shaped by the aggregation of individual residential choices, guided by discrimination, differences in resources, and preference-based explanations of neighborhood ethnic composition. However, research on social networks indicates that social influence can serve as a driver of collective outcomes that result in social organization. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Geospatial Knowledge Discovery using Volunteered Geographic Information : a Complex System Perspective

    Författare :Tao Jia; Bin Jiang; Yifang Ban; Itzhak Benenson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; knowledge discovery; urban systems; complex system; VGI; OSM; GPS tracking dataset; scaling; heavy-tailed distribution detection; urban sprawl; Zipf’s law; human activity mobility patterns; agent-based modeling; complex network.;

    Sammanfattning : The continuous progression of urbanization has resulted in an increasing number of people living in cities or towns. In parallel, advancements in technologies, such as the Internet, telecommunications, and transportation, have allowed for better connectivity among people. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Information horizons in a complex world

    Författare :Martin Rosvall; Petter Minnhagen; Kim Sneppen; Vito Latora; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Complex systems; networks; information; communication; self-organization; network topology; agent-based modeling.; Physics; Fysik;

    Sammanfattning : The whole in a complex system is the sum of its parts, plus the interactions between the parts. Understanding social, biological, and economic systems therefore often depends on understanding their patterns of interactions---their networks. LÄS MER
