  1. 11. Predictors of Dementia : Insulin, Fatty Acids and Vascular Risk Factors

    Författare :Elina Rönnemaa; Lena Kilander; Lars Lannfelt; Björn Zethelius; Laura Fratiglioni; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; dementia; Alzheimer’s disease; vascular dementia; insulin secretion; diabetes; fatty acids; epidemiology; vascular risk factors; Geriatrics; Geriatrik;

    Sammanfattning : Identification of modifiable risk factors for Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is crucial in order to diminish suffering from this devastating disease. The aim of this thesis was to investigate if different aspects of glucose metabolism, insulin, fatty-acid composition or other vascular risk factors predict the future development of AD and dementia. 2. 12. Genetics of Parkinson's disease - with focus on genes of relevance for inflammation and dopamine neruon development

    Författare :Anna Zettergren; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Parkinson s disease; genetics; inflammation; single nucleotide polymorphism; dopamine neuron development; estrogen; gene; age of onset; Pitx3; estrogen receptor beta; interleukin 6;

    Sammanfattning : Abstract GENETICS OF PARKINSON’S DISEASE - WITH FOCUS ON GENES OF RELEVANCE FOR INFLAMMATION AND DOPAMINE NEURON DEVELOPMENT Introduction: The risk to be affected by Parkinson’s disease (PD) is considered to be influenced by genetic factors. In some rare cases of familial PD, mutations in some specific genes are known to cause the disease, but in the more common sporadic form of PD the causes are probably environmental factors interacting with genetic vulnerability. 3. 13. The influence of social relationships and leisure activity on adult cognitive functioning and risk of dementia : Longitudinal population-based studies

    Författare :Daniel Eriksson Sörman; Michael Rönnlund; Anna Sundström; Lars-Göran Nilsson; Martin Lövdén; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Cognitive functioning; cognition; memory; dementia; Alzheimer’s disease; cognitive reserve; reverse causality; old age; middle age; leisure activity; social relationships; social network; longitudinal; Psychology; psykologi;

    Sammanfattning : Today, as we live longer, dementia diseases are becoming more prevalent around the world. Thus, further knowledge of how to maintain levels of cognitive functioning in old age and how to identify factors that postpone the onset of dementia are of acute interest. Lifestyle patterns and social life are important aspects to consider in this regard. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Retinopathy of Prematurity in Infants Born Before 27 Weeks of Gestation : A National Population-based Study in Sweden During 2004-2007

    Författare :Dordi Austeng; Gerd E. Holmström; Karin B.M. Källen; Uwe W. Ewald; Olav Haugen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Retinopathy of prematurity; extremely preterm; population-based; epidemiology; treatment; natural history; screening; Ophtalmiatrics; Oftalmiatrik; Ophtalmology; Oftalmiatrik; Pediatrics; Pediatrik; Epidemiology; Epidemiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Improved neonatal care has resulted in an increasing population of surviving infants. Neonatal morbidity in preterm infants is, however, high, and retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is one of the major neonatal morbidities. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Clinical evaluation and implications of left atrial remodeling in atrial fibrillation : From silent cerebral lesions and atrial stunning to novel electrocardiographic tools for prediction of arrhythmia outcome

    Författare :Panagiotis Arvanitis; Carina Blomström-Lundqvist; Mårten Rosenqvist; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Atrial fibrillation; left atrial remodeling; recurrence; new-onset; silent cerebral lesions; white matter hyperintensities; cardioversion; pulmonary vein isolation; risk factors; electrocardiographic predictors; P-wave indices; machine learning; predictive models; Covid-19;

    Sammanfattning : Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common cardiac arrhythmia. Left atrial (LA) remodeling and reverse remodeling are associated with cerebral involvement and cognitive function (CF) changes. Risk stratification for AF related outcomes is essential in the management of patients with AF. LÄS MER
