  1. 1. Acoustic and afterload evaluation of left ventricular assist devices

    Författare :Per Sundbom; Henrik Casimir Ahn; Laila Hübbert; Fredrik Gustafsson; Daniel M. G. Karlsson; Michael Broomé; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Afterload; Electronic stethoscope; Flow; HeartMate II; HeartMate 3; iOS-devices; Sound Analysis;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Heart Failure is a serious condition with consequences not only for the individual patient but also for the society with a 5-year mortality rate of 45-60%, and a substantial economic burden. The estimated prevalence in Sweden is 2.2% and the age adjusted prevalence increases with higher age. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Strain echocardiography in cardiac surgery - studies on the effects of loading conditions and inotropic agents on myocardial contraction and relaxation

    Författare :Martin Fredholm; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; strain echocardiography; right heart catheterization; cardiac surgery; heart failure; levosimendan; milrinone; left ventricular function; right ventricular function; systole; diastole; preload; afterload; pacing; longitudinal function; ventricular dimensions; ventricular interdependence;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Although reductions in myocardial contractility and relaxation are key compo-nents in heart failure (HF), assessment of them is difficult, as clinical measurements deal with a net effect of myocardial contractility, heart filling (preload), outflow impedance (afterload) and heart rate (HR). Echocardiographic (echo) deformation parameters, like strain (myocardial shortening) and strain rate (the speed of deformation, SR), have been proposed to more accu-rately measure myocardial function, but incongruent previous studies have raised concerns that they may be load-dependent. 3. 3. Left ventricular function's relation to load, experimental studies in a porcine model

    Författare :Roman A'roch; Michael Haney; Jan Poelaert; Lars-Åke Brodin; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; heart function; preload; afterload; contractility; myocardial tissue velocity; speckle tracking; Anaesthetics and intensive care; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; Cardiology; kardiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Loading conditions are recognized to influence ventricular function according to the Starling relationship for length/stretch and force.  Many modern echocardiographic parameters which have been announced as describing ventricular function and contractile status, may be confounded by uncontrolled and unmeasured load. 4. 4. The effect of pressure afterload due to aortic coarctation on left ventricular function in children

    Författare :Haki Jashari; Michael Henein; Annika Rydberg; Katarina Hanséus; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Coarctation of the aorta; congenital aortic stenosis; left ventricle; myocardial deformation imaging; speckle tracking echocardiography; longitudinal strain; aorto-septal angle; children; Cardiology; kardiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Background:Coarctation of the aorta (CoA) is a congenital heart disease which represents a narrowing of the proximal descending aorta, hence increasing pressure afterload to the left ventricle (LV). Conventional treatment of native CoA is surgical repair, however potential recurrence or other related complications e.g. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Echocardiographic assessment of atrioventricular plane displacement, Clinical application in patients with coronary artery disease, atrial fibrillation and aortic stenosis

    Författare :Erik Rydberg; Kardiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; prognosis; aortic stenosis; atrial fibrillation; AVPD; coronary artery disease;

    Sammanfattning : Left atrioventricular plane displacement (AVPD) has been shown to correlate well with left ventricular (LV) systolic function measured as ejection fraction (EF). AVPD has also been shown to be related to diastolic performance. LÄS MER
