  1. 1. Advective Collisions in Random Flows

    Författare :Kristian Gustafsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : In nature, suspensions of small particles in fluids are common. An important example are rain droplets suspended in turbulent clouds. Such clouds can start to rain very quickly and the reason for this is still not fully explained, but it is believed that the turbulent motion in the cloud plays an important role. LÄS MER

  2. 2. The Lagrangian Stochastic Advective-Reactive Approach to Modeling Solute Transport in Hydrological Systems

    Författare :Archana Gupta; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :solute transport; groundwater transport; unsaturated zone; stream hydrology; stream networks; stochastic processes; mass transfer kinetics; preferential flow; temporal moments; catchment hydrology; Lagrangian transport model;

    Sammanfattning : The Lagrangian stochastic advective-reactive modelingapproach has been used for analyzing transport of bothnonreactive and reactive solutes in different hydrologicalsystems (structured soil, groundwater, mining waste rockdeposits and surface waters including single stream and networkof streams) and at different spatio-temporal scales (rangingfrom laboratory column-scale to catchment-scale). Further, afirst step has been taken to extending the Lagrangianstochastic advective-reactive modeling methodology to integratethe soil-groundwater-stream transport through a catchment. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Mineralisation rates of natural organic matter in surface sediments affected by physical forces

    Författare :Carina Ståhlberg; Bo Svensson; Lars Rahm; David Bastviken; Anders Tengberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Sediment; Organic matter mineralisation; Organic matter degradation; Redox; Electron acceptor; Resuspension; Advective pore water flow; Other chemistry; Övrig kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Nedbrytning av organiskt material är en nyckelfaktor som påverkar omvandlingar av de många grundämnen som utgör eller är associerade till just organiskt material. En stor del av nedbrytningen av akvatiskt organiskt material (OM) sker i gränsskiktet mellan sediment och vatten. LÄS MER

  4. 4. A multi-resolution approach for modeling flow and solute transport in heterogeneous porous media

    Författare :Hrvoje Gotovac; Vladimir Cvetkovic; Alberto Bellin; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Multi-resolution adaptive approach; Atomic and Fup basis functions; Monte- Carlo method; Heterogeneous porous media; Flow; Transport; Travel time; Water engineering; Vattenteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Subsurface processes are usually characterized by rare field experiments, sparse measurements,multi-resolution interpretations, stochastic description, related uncertainties and computational complexity. Over the last few decades, different computational techniques and strategies have become indispensable tools for flow and solute transport prediction in heterogeneous porousmedia. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Stochastic analysis of fluid flow and tracer pathways in crystalline fracture networks

    Författare :Andrew Frampton; Vladimir Cvetkovic; Allen Shapiro; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Groundwater; Fractured media; Transport; Retention; Macrodispersion; Lagrangian formulation; Stochastic modelling; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; Hydrology; Hydrologi; Environmental engineering; Miljöteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Understanding groundwater flow systems and how these control transport is an essential part in assessing the suitability of subsurface environments as hosts for storage of toxic waste. Therefore it is important to be able to integrate knowledge obtained from field characterisation of the subsurface with methods which can be used to evaluate and predict possible impact on surrounding environments.
