6. Risk factors for cardiovascular events and incident hospital-treated diabetes in the population
Sammanfattning : Background: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death worldwide. Well-established risk factors for CVD include increasing age, male sex, sedentary lifestyle, obesity, smoking, diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidaemia and low socio-economic status. Traditional risk factors do, however, not fully explain cardiovascular risk in general. LÄS MER
7. Genes predisposing to type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular mortality
Sammanfattning : Cardiovascular complications are frequent in type 2 diabetes (T2D) and cardiovascular death is the most common cause of death for these individuals. A region on chromosome 19 (19q13) has been indicated by several genome scans as a susceptibility locus for T2D or components of the metabolic syndrome (MetS). LÄS MER
8. Effects of prolactin on metabolism - changes induced by hyperprolactinemia
Sammanfattning : High prolactin levels during breast-feeding, is recognized to influence metabolism in order to supply glucose and fat for milk production. Pathologic overproduction of prolactin, hyperprolactinemia, is a condition primarily associated with reproductive disorders; however, the metabolic impact of elevated prolactin indicates that these parameters might be considered in clinical management of the condition. 9. Barnfetma och Metabola Syndromet hos förskolebarn - tidiga faktorer och identifiering av riskindivider från ett longitudinellt perspektiv : Childhood Obesity and Metabolic Syndrome in Preschool Children - Early markers and identification of individuals at increased risk in a longitudinal perspective
Sammanfattning : Background: Overweight and obesity have increased worldwide and affect children at ever younger ages, resulting in cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes even in adolescents. This illustrates the importance of identifying children at risk at an early stage. Aim: To study metabolic health in preschool children. LÄS MER
10. Trends in obesity and type 2 diabetes : ethnic aspects and links to adipokines
Sammanfattning : Objective The prevalence of obesity and related diseases such as type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is increasing worldwide, and the Asian Indian population seems to be particularly susceptible to developing T2DM, even at a low body mass index (BMI). In Sweden, the age-adjusted prevalence of diabetes has not increased despite increasing self-reported obesity. LÄS MER
