  1. 11. Hormone-Sensitive Lipase and Protein Kinase B; Molecular characterization in testis, adipose tissue and pancreatic beta cells

    Författare :Lena Stenson; Signaltransduktionsforskning; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; signal transduction; pancreas; beta cells; adipocyte; insulin; Akt; protein kinase B; spermatogenesis; cholesterol esterase; hormone-sensitive lipase; testis; cAMP; Proteins; enzymology; Proteiner; enzymologi;

    Sammanfattning : Hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL) and protein kinase B (PKB) are enzymes that in different ways are associated with lipid metabolism. While HSL is the well-known lipolytic enzyme responsible for hydrolysis of stored triacylglycerols in adipose tissue, PKB is a recently identified serine/threonine protein kinase, ubiquitously expressed and involved in signal transduction pathways induced by insulin and growth factors. 2. 12. Monoglyceride Lipase and Hormone-Sensitive Lipase - Molecular and structural aspects

    Författare :Marie Karlsson; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; genomic organisation; baculovirus-insect cells; catalytic triad; alfa beta hydrolase fold; tissue distribution; cDNA sequence; lipolysis; adipocyte; monoglyceride lipase; hormone-sensitive lipase; chromosomal localisation; Clinical biology; Klinisk biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Triglycerides in the adipocyte are hydrolysed by means of three consecutive reactions through the combined action of two lipases: hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL) and monoglyceride lipase (MGL). HSL catalyses the first and rate-limiting step, i.e. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Estrogen and Glucocorticoid Metabolism

    Författare :Therése Andersson; Tommy Olsson; Cecilia Mattsson; Ingegerd Söderström; Jonas Burén; Agneta Holmäng; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; 11β-Hydroxysteroid Dehydrogenase Type 1; Estrogen; Cortisol; Adipose tissue; Liver; Menopause; Ovariectomy; Adipocyte; Estrogen Receptor β; Endocrinology; Endokrinologi; medicin; Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death among women in Sweden. The risk of CVD increases rapidly after the menopause. A major contributing factor may be the redistribution of adipose tissue, from the peripheral to central depots, associated with menopause. LÄS MER

  4. 14. A long and winding road: Differentiating human embryonic stem cells into dopaminergic neurons

    Författare :Oktar Guloglu; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; adipocyte; PA6; DZNEP; dopaminergic differentiation; embryonic stem cells;

    Sammanfattning : Parkinson’s disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder. Since the motor manifestations of the disease is associated with the loss of dopaminergic (DAergic) neurons in the substantia nigra pars compacta, cell replacement therapy is a promising approach for treatment. 5. 15. Adipose tissue mitchondrial function is modulated by antioxidants

    Författare :Eduard Peris Franquet; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; adipocyte; metabolism; browning; antioxidant; mitochondria; oxidative stress; adrenergic recpetor; N-acetylcysteine; glutathione; reactive oxygen species;

    Sammanfattning : Antioxidants are widely used as reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavenging agents in experimental research and in conditions where oxidative stress plays a primary role. However, the effect of antioxidant supplementation on white and brown adipose tissue functionality is understudied, and the role of ROS and/or antioxidant treatment during adipose tissue browning, a process in which the adipocytes’ mitochondrial density and activity increase, is largely unknown.
