16. On the Adhesion Between Substrates Covered with Polyelectrolyte Multilayers
Sammanfattning : This thesis examines the formation of Polyelectrolyte Multilayers (PEM) on cellulose fibres as a new way of influencing the fibre surface and the adhesion between wood fibres. The aim of the study was to enhance the fundamental understanding of the adsorption mechanisms behind the formation of Polyelectrolyte Multilayers on cellulose fibres; to study how the properties of the layers can be influenced and to show how the properties of the layers influence the adhesion between the fibres and the strength of paper sheets made from the PEM treated fibres. 17. Time dependent material properties of shotcrete for hard rock tunnelling
Sammanfattning : In this thesis different mechanical properties for shotcrete (sprayed concrete) such as compression strength, bond strength, bending tensile strength, elastic modulus, free and restrained shrinkage as a function of its age was investigated. One of the main issues was to investigate the difference between ordinary cast concrete and shotcrete. LÄS MER
18. On the Fracture of Thin Laminates
Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns mechanical and fracture properties of a thin aluminium foil and polymer laminate that is widely used as packaging material. The possibility of controlling the path of the growing crack propagation by adjustment of the adhesion level and the property of the polymer layer is investigated. LÄS MER
19. Exploring the Wood Adhesive Performance of Wheat Gluten
Sammanfattning : The increasing environmental concern has reawakened an interest in materials based on renewable resources as replacement for petroleum-based materials. The main objective of this thesis was to explore plant proteins, more specifically wheat gluten, as a binder in wood adhesives intended for typical solid wood applications such as furniture and flooring. 20. Roughest hour – approaches to ship hull fouling management
Sammanfattning : Submerged surfaces at sea are colonized by a high diversity of sessile (i.e. attached) life forms. As the merchant fleet capacity increases, responding to growth in demand for seaborne transport, so does the hull wetted surface area that is prone to colonization by these sessile organisms, i.
