  1. 16. Ergonomics of Breathing Apparatus, with Special Reference to Work of Breathing, Dead Space and Breathing Resistance

    Författare :Dan E. Warkander; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; performance; control of breathing; static lung loading; work of breathing; breathing resistance; elastance; helium; hydrogen; hypercapnia; diving; CO2;

    Sammanfattning : A breathing apparatus is a very useful device. It allows people to breathe relatively freely while entering environments that otherwise would be impenetrable such as extreme altitudes, smoke filled buildings, ocean depths and the surface of the moon. However, a breathing apparatus does have some disadvantages. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Physiological consequences of Elongator complex inactivation in Eukaryotes

    Författare :Tony Karlsborn; Anders Byström; Hans Ronne; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Elongator complex; wobble uridine modifications; IKBKAP; IKAP; Familial dysautonomia; Untargeted Metabolic profiling.; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Mutations found in genes encoding human Elongator complex subunits have been linked to neurodevelopmental disorders such as familial dysautonomia (FD), rolandic epilepsy and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. In addition, loss-of-function mutations in genes encoding Elongator complex subunits cause defects in neurodevelopment and reduced neuronal function in both mice and nematodes. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Annoyance, quality- and safety aspects of sound in truck cabins

    Författare :Anders Genell; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; spectral balance; low frequency; product sound quality; annoyance;

    Sammanfattning : For heavy vehicles the interior sound environment is still more or less just apassive result of the engineering of the different parts that make up the vehicle,although measures are taken to keep sound pressure level within legislatedboundaries. Additionally, the sound inside truck cabins is dominated by itslow frequency (LF) content, and is hence prone to impair task performance andreduce wakefulness as well as cause general annoyance and different adversehealth effects. 4. 19. Cerebral circulation and the sympathetic nervous system in patients with traumatic brain injury or subarachnoid hemorrhage

    Författare :Silvana Naredi; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :traumatic brain injury; brain edema; microcirculation; intracranial pressure; epo-prostenol; norepinephrine; subarachnoid hemorrhage; sympathetic nervous system; clonidine;

    Sammanfattning : Maintenance of adequate cerebral microcirculation is necessary to avoid cerebral ischemia after severe traumatic brain injury and non-traumatic subarachnoid hemorrhage. After severe traumatic brain injury the blood-brain-barrier is disrupted and transcapillary leakage will contribute to the development of vasogenic brain edema. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Febrile Urinary Tract Infection: P fimbriae, Innate Host Response and Bacteremia

    Författare :Gisela Otto; immunologi och glykobiologi - MIG Avdelningen för mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; prsGJ96; Microbiology; bacteriology; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi; papGIA2; antibiotic therapy; urine; chemokine; interleukin-6; host response; P fimbriae; bacteremia; febrile urinary tract infection; Escherichia coli;

    Sammanfattning : Urinary tract infections (UTI) are among the most common human infections, and febrile UTI with bacteremia the most severe form. The relation between bacteria and host decides disease severity. The dominating uropathogen is Escherichia coli (E. coli). LÄS MER
