16. Noise improves cognitive performance in children with dysfunctional neurotransmission
Sammanfattning : Research on children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) has shown that they are extremely sensitive to distraction from external stimuli that lead to poor cognitive performance. This thesis shows that cognitive performance can be improved if this external stimulus is smooth and continuous (e.g. auditory white noise). LÄS MER
17. Performance Analysis and Optimization via Simulation
Sammanfattning : A large amount of scientific work has been carried out to enhance the methods used for design and control of technical systems. For many of these systems, the main objective is to utilize the limited resources in an optimal way. Different simulation techniques have, in many cases, been successfully applied to the analysis. 18. Robust Multimedia Communications over Packet Networks
Sammanfattning : Multimedia communications over packet networks, and in particular the voice over IP (VoIP) application, have become an integral part of society. However, the unreliable and heterogeneous nature of packet networks has led to a best-effort delivery of services. LÄS MER
19. Individual-tree-selection in uneven-sized Norway spruce stands in southern Sweden : Developments of tools for simulation and optimization
Sammanfattning : Individual-tree-selection (ITS) is a continuous cover forestry method that aims to utilize the uneven-sized stand structure through optimized individual tree selections. ITS is an interesting management alternative to rotation forestry in terms of production of multiple benefits and forest owner profitability. LÄS MER
20. Complexity and Error Analysis of Numerical Methods for Wireless Channels, SDE, Random Variables and Quantum Mechanics
Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of the four papers which consider different aspects of stochastic process modeling, error analysis, and minimization of computational cost. In Paper I, we construct a Multipath Fading Channel (MFC) model for wireless channels with noise introduced through scatterers flipping on and off. LÄS MER
