  1. 1. Surgery for acute coronary syndromes

    Författare :Staffan Bjessmo; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :acute coronary syndromes; coronary artery bypass surgery; mortality; acute myocardial infarction; troponin-T; blood loss; coagulation system activity;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis comprises two observational retrospective and three prospective studies of patients with acute coronary syndromes undergoing urgent coronary bypass surgery. All included patients underwent coronary artery bypass surgery at the Karolinska Hospital in Stockholm. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Acute coronary syndromes. The prognostic importance of hypertension, diabetes and vectorcardiographic markers

    Författare :Markus Lingman; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; acute coronary syndromes; hypertension; diabetes; percutaneous coronary intervention; prognosis; myocardial ischemia; coronary artery disease; electrocardiography; vectorcardiography; arrhythmia; sudden death; electrophysiology;

    Sammanfattning : Research questions: 1 Is hypertension and diabetes associated with the future risk of death, and recurrent manifestations of cardiovascular disease in acute coronary syndromes (ACS)? 2 How does myocardial ischemia affect depolarization and repolarization of the heart during the early phase of an acute myocardial infarction? 3 What is the prognostic value of accepted vectorcardiographic markers in relation to future risk of sudden cardiac death after ACS? Methodology: Papers I, III and IV studied patients with ACS prospectively and consecutively included at the coronary care unit of Sahlgrenska University Hospital. Paper I deals with 2,329 patients who were followed for a median of 8 years. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Platelet Inhibition, Revascularization, and Risk Prediction in Non-ST-elevation Acute Coronary Syndromes

    Författare :Daniel Lindholm; Stefan James; Christoph Varenhorst; James de Lemos; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; coronary artery disease; myocardial infarction; acute coronary syndrome; non-ST-elevation acute coronary syndrome; P2Y12 inhibitors; ticagrelor; biomarkers; revascularization; percutaneous coronary intervention; risk prediction; Cardiology; Kardiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death worldwide and ischemic heart disease is the most common manifestation. Despite improved outcomes during the last decades, patients with acute coronary syndromes (ACS) are still at substantial risk of recurrent ischemic events and mortality. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Inflammatory markers and prognosis in acute coronary syndromes

    Författare :Anna M Jansson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :acute coronary syndrome;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Inflammation both accelerates atherosclerosis and contributes to the activation and rupture of the atherosclerotic plaque. Several markers of inflammation, such as CRP, have shown prognostic merit in patients with acute coronary syndromes (ACS). LÄS MER

  5. 5. Biomarkers of Renal Function in Acute Coronary Syndromes

    Författare :Axel Åkerblom; Stefan James; Lars Wallentin; Torbjörn Omland; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cystatin C; glomerular filtration rate; GFR; creatinine; acute coronary syndrome; ACS; kidney; renal; mortality; death; myocardial infarction; Cardiology; Kardiologi; Medicin; Medicine; Internal Medicine; Internmedicin;

    Sammanfattning : The thesis aimed to investigate cystatin C and creatinine-based estimates of glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), both at admission and during follow-up, on the combined endpoint of cardiovascular death and myocardial infarction in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). We also evaluated two cystatin C assays and assessed genetic determinants of cystatin C concentrations. LÄS MER
