  1. 16. Acupuncture in reproductive medicine. Applications in human assisted reproduction and aspects of clinical and experimental neuroendocrinology

    Författare :Elisabet Stener-Victorin; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; electro-acupuncture; blood flow impedance; circulation; uterine artery; in-vitro fertilization; oocyte aspiration; polycystic ovary syndrome; experimentally induced PCO; anovulation; gonadotropins; steroids; neuropeptides; b-endorphin; nerve growth factor; corticotropin-releasing factor.;

    Sammanfattning : The use of acupuncture in the area of reproductive medicine is relatively new, and it has been rather poorly investigated in the past. When muscle afferents are stimulated by acupuncture in somatic segments related to the innervation of the ovaries and the uterus, functional changes occur in the neural substrate that may influence reproductive function and result in peripheral, segmental and central effects. 2. 17. Polycystic ovary syndrome – Studies of metabolic and ovarian disturbances and effects of physical exercise and electro-acupuncture

    Författare :Louise Mannerås Holm; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :adipocyte size; adipose tissue; androgen excess; animal models; body composition; electro-acupuncture; insulin resistance; ovary; physical exercise; polycystic ovary syndrome;

    Sammanfattning : Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrine abnormality in premenopausal women. The syndrome is characterized by hyperandrogenism, ovulatory dysfunction and polycystic ovarian (PCO) morphology. Metabolic disturbances, such as insulin resistance and obesity, are also associated with PCOS. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Vasomotor symptoms in postmenopausal women : the role of acupuncture and calcitonin gene-related peptide

    Författare :Yvonne Wyon; Britt-Marie Landgren; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : A majority of postmenopausal women experience vasomotor symptoms, which have a significant impact on the women's quality of life. Estrogens are the treatment of choice but can for different reasons not be used by all women. There is therefore a great need for viable alternative treatments. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Enhancing Health Among Drug Users in Prison

    Författare :Anne H. Berman; Ulf Lundberg; Hans Bergman; James McGuire; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; drug use; prison; screening; auricular acupuncture; cognitive-behavioral treatment; psychiatric co-morbidity; existential issues; health; risk management; Psychology; Psykologi;

    Sammanfattning : Four interrelated studies on drug users in prison are presented within the framework of a proposed model for approaching the enhancement of health for persons that builds on an existential view of prisoners’ needs, as well as the risk management and “good lives” perspectives. Risk management is the major focus in current offender rehabilitation based on research on “what works,” which has shown that focusing treatment on risk factors termed “criminogenic needs,” such as impulsivity, poor family relations and drug abuse, reduces recidivism by 10-15 percentage points. 5. 20. Studies on the influence of sensory stimulation (acupuncture) on neuropeptide release in the saliva

    Författare :Irena Dawidson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :acupuncture; substance P; neurokinin A; calcitonin gene-related peptide; vasoactive intestinal polypeptide; neuropeptide Y; xerostomia; salivary secretion rates;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to elucidate the mechanisms behind the effect of sensory stimulation (acupuncture) on the salivary flow rates of xerostomic patients. We hypothesised that the sensory stimulation activates the sensory and autonomic nervous systems, leading to an increased release of neuropeptides that influence salivary secretion in co-operation with or/and beside the classical neurotransmitters.
