  1. 1. Beyond carbon-limitation : A re-evaluation of the ecological role of photorespiration and direct oxygen photoreduction in seagrasses

    Detta är en avhandling från Stockholm : Department of Ecology, Environment and Plant Sciences, Stockholm University

    Författare :Pimchanok Buapet; Stockholms universitet.; [2014]
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Carbon limitation; Chlorophyll fluorescence; Electron transport rate; Irradiance; Mehler reaction; Non-photochemical quenching; Photorespiration; Photosynthetic activity; växtfysiologi; Plant Physiology;

    Sammanfattning : Seagrasses living in shallow coastal waters are regularly subjected to changes in environmental conditions including the two essential factors for photosynthesis: dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) and irradiance. This thesis focuses on the photosynthetic responses of seagrasses to carbon limitation induced by community metabolism and/or high light intensities. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Physical activity and energy expenditure in clinical settings using multisensor activity monitors

    Detta är en avhandling från Stockholm : Department of Ecology, Environment and Plant Sciences, Stockholm University

    Författare :Daniel Arvidsson; Göteborgs universitet.; Gothenburg University.; [2009]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physical activity; energy expenditure; children; activity monitors; multisensors; validity; reliability; congenital heart defects; aerobic fitness;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Objective methods need to replace subjective methods for accurate quantification of physical activity. To be used in clinical settings objective methods have to show high reliability, validity and feasibility. The commonly used activity monitors are unable to detect the variety of physical activities. Sammanfattning : Popular Abstract in Swedish Vardagslivets aktiviteter påverkar vår hälsa och vårt välbefinnande. Idag är aktiviteterna ofta spridda över stora geografiska områden och vi måste resa för att nå aktiviteterna. Resandet blir därmed en viktig del av vår vardag. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Nutrient Limitation of Bacterial Growth in Soil

    Detta är en avhandling från Department of Ecology, Lund University

    Författare :Fredrik Demoling; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2007]
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ekologi; Ecology; Fertilization; Bacteria; Soil; Fungi; Thymidine or Leucine incorporation; Growth limitation; Phosphorus; Nitrogen; Carbon;

    Sammanfattning : Lack of carbon has been assumed to be the most common limiting factor for bacterial growth in soil, although there are reports of limitation by nitrogen and phosphorus. I have studied nutrient limitation of bacterial growth in soil using a novel technique, where thymidine or leucine incorporation is used to detect changes in growth rates after adding nutrients.
