6. Novel Technique for Analysing Volatile Compounds in Indoor Dust : Application of Gas Chromatography – UV Spectrometry to the Study of Building-Related Illness
Sammanfattning : It is now generally acknowledged that particulate air pollution can cause respiratory symptoms and that indoor dust particles may be associated with mucous membrane irritation and odour annoyance. One reason for this may be that dust particles adsorb large quantities of gases and other volatile compounds. LÄS MER
7. Photocuring of multifunctional monomers initiated by camphorquinone / amine systems for application in dental restorative resins
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the photopolymerization of mono-, di- and trifunctional monomers initiated by carnphorquinone (CQ) alone and/or with different amines (AMH) as coinitiators in air as well in nitrogen. The kinetics of photopolymerization was measured by photoisothermal calorimetry (photo-DSC), which allowed the measurement of the rate of polymerization (Rp), maximum rate of polymerization (Rpmax), time of inhibition (tinh), time at which Rpmax was obtained (tmax), double bond conversion (p) and maximum double bond conversion (pmax). 8. The three-component aza-Baylis-Hillman reaction : development and application
Sammanfattning : The current thesis presents the optimization and generalization of the Baylis-Hillman reaction applied to in situ generated imines, i.e. a three-component aza- Baylis-Hillman reaction. We found that the title reaction proceeds most efficiently in the presence of a combination of catalysts, i. LÄS MER
9. Dermal exposure to UV-radiation and UV-curable acrylate coatings in the wood working industry
Sammanfattning : The work with UV radiation curable coatings (UV-coatings), increasingly used in the wood working industry, involves risks from skin exposure to hazardous UV-radiation and to harmful compounds in UV-coatings. The coatings contain acrylates that are known skin irritants and sensitizers. LÄS MER
10. On electrostatic effects, minimal motion and other catalytic strategies used by enzymes
Sammanfattning : Enzymes are powerful biocatalysts that provide rate accelerations of up to 1019 fold compared to the corresponding uncatalyzed reaction in solution. The origin of the remarkable performance displayed by enzymes has fascinated and puzzled researchers for over a hundred years. LÄS MER
