21. Evolutionary implications of acidification: a frog’s eye view
Sammanfattning : Understanding the diversity of life is one of the main aims of evolutionary biology, and requires knowledge of the occurrence and causes of adaptive genetic differentiation among geographically distinct populations. Environmental stress caused by acidity may cause strong directional selection in natural populations, but is little explored from an evolutionary perspective. LÄS MER
22. Industrial challenges in the use of Saccharomyces cerevisiae for ethanolic fermentation of lignocellulosic biomass
Sammanfattning : The sustainable production of ethanol from lignocellulosic biomass requires the combination of efficient hydrolysis and complete fermentation of all the monomeric sugars present in the raw material. The present work was aimed at tackling some of the major challenges that will be encountered in commercial-scale ethanol production using Baker’s yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, the preferred microorganism for the fermentation step. 23. Studies on receptors for modified LDL in human monocytes and macrophages : a link between diabetes and atherosclerosis?
Sammanfattning : Type 2 diabetes increases the risk for cardiovascular disease three- to fourfold. Because of the rise in diabetes prevalence there is a need for a better understanding of the link between diabetes and atherosclerosis. LÄS MER
24. Impact of Cultivation Parameters on Cell Physiology of Limosilactobacillus reuteri
Sammanfattning : Optimisation of cultivation conditions in the industrial production of probiotics is crucial to reach a high-quality product with high probiotic functionality. The production process includes a fermentation step to produce biomass, accompanied by centrifugation to concentrate the cells. LÄS MER
25. Gastrointestinal involvement in familial amyloidosis with polyneuropathy : a clinical study
Sammanfattning : Familial Amyloidosis with Polyneuropathy was first recognized in Portugal and reported by Andrade in 1952. The disease is rare, but clustering of the patients has been reported from Portugal, Japan and northern Sweden. The gastrointestinal involvement in the Swedish form of the disease was studied in this investigation. LÄS MER
