  1. 1. Exploring Saccharomyces cerevisiae’s responses to acetic acid and other inhibitors found in lignocellulosic hydrolysates

    Författare :Maurizio Mormino; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; acetic acid biosensor; formic acid; CRISPRi screening; acetic acid; Saccharomyces cerevisiae; lignocellulosic inhibitor tolerance; differential gene expression;

    Sammanfattning : The limited tolerance of the budding yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae to lignocellulosic hydrolysate inhibitors is a key challenge to its use in biorefinery cell factories. Considerable resources have been invested in the isolation of yeast strains with better tolerance towards the inhibitors released during lignocellulose hydrolysis, such as acetic acid. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : A shift from fossil- to renewable biomass feedstock for the emerging bio-based economy requires the development and adoption of new sustainable technologies that are more suited for transformation of biomass components to chemicals, materials and energy. This thesis presents investigations on the development of processes based on industrial biotechnology as a key element for the production of chemicals from agro-/industrial by-products. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Atmospheric Corrosion of Lead. The Influence of Organic acid Vapours and Inorganic Air Pollutants. A contribution Towards Understanding the Environmental Degradation of Historic Organ Pipes

    Författare :Annika Niklasson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; organ pipe; formic acid; Atmospheric corrosion; lead formate; lead acetate; NaCl; lead; acetic acid;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis presents different perspectives on the atmospheric corrosion of lead, aiming at a better understanding of the environmental degradation of historical organ pipes. Corroded organ pipes from the field have been analyzed and the environment inside the organ wind system has been mapped. LÄS MER
