6. Molecular targets for glucocorticoids in macrophages: cytosolic phospholipase A2 and cytokine formation
Sammanfattning : The aim of this investigation has been to study mechanisms by which glucocorticoids inhibit inflammatory processes in vitro. Type IV cytosolic 85 kDa phospholipase A2 (cPLA2) is an important modulator of inflammatory responses that is present in macrophages as well as in other cell types. LÄS MER
7. Global Regulation of Snf1 in Saccharomyces cerevisiae: A case study of experimental systems biology
Sammanfattning : Cells commonly face environmental changes and have evolved various regulatory mechanisms to adjust their metabolism accordingly. One such key regulator in S. cerevisiae is the Snf1 kinase, which belongs to the conserved AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) family in all eukaryotes. LÄS MER
8. Regulation of prostaglandin E2 synthesis in human gingival fibroblasts
Sammanfattning : Prostaglandins, especially, prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) play an important role in inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and periodontitis. The aim of the present thesis was to study the production and the regulation of PGE2 with special reference to the key enzymes phospholipase A2 (PLA2) and cyclooxygenase (COX) at the rnRNA level in human gingival fibroblasts. 9. Metabolic signals in the regulation of insulin release
Sammanfattning : In the present thesis, an attempt was made to elucidate the role of some of the glucose-induced intracellular metabolic effector signals in insulin secretion and to develop new applications that will enable further investigations of oscillatory signalling and secretion from pancreatic ß-cells. The sequence of early metabolic and ionic events was examined in clonal pancreatic insulin secreting cells (HIT) in response to glucose stimulation. LÄS MER
10. Signaling capacity of ß2-integrins in relations to neutrophil motility
Sammanfattning : The neutrophil granulocyte is one of the most mobile cell types in the human body and represents the first line of defense against invading pathogens. Adhesion and chemotactic receptors on the cell surface work together through modulations of the cytoskeleton and thereby cause the cell to move. LÄS MER
