  1. 16. Selenium cytotoxicity in cancer

    Författare :Marita Wallenberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Selenium is an essential trace element, present in the 21st amino acid selenocysteine, which is specifically incorporated into selenoproteins. Today, there are 25 identified selenoproteins in humans, whereof many comprises redox active functions to uphold the intracellular redox balance. LÄS MER

  2. 17. In vitro studies of retinoids and arsenic in non-M3 acute myeloid leukemia

    Författare :Sören Lehmann; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; Sweden Stockholm Huddinge University Hospital Department of Medicine; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Despite advances in the treatment of patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML), the majority of the patients will die from their disease. The current intensive therapy for AML is also complicated my substantial morbidity and mortality and, as a result, many patients cannot be given the most effective therapy. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Roles of Myc and Mad in cell cycle and apoptosis

    Författare :Ami Albihn; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Myc; Mad; cell cycle; apoptosis; differentiation; tumorigenesis; chemotherapy;

    Sammanfattning : The Myc network proteins are key mediators in regulation of cell growth, differentiation and apoptosis. They are basic region hehx-loop-helix/leucine zipper (bHLH/Zip) transcription factors that require hetero-dimerization with Max for specific DNA binding Mad family members are expressed primarily in differentiated tissues where they recruit histone deacetylase complexes via the mSin3 interaction domain (SID) to repress transcription of target genes and prevent cell growth In contrast, members of the Myc family activate target gene transcription by recruitment of histone acetyltransferases to their transcriptional activation domain (TAD), inducing proliferation and S phase entry. 4. 19. Response mechanisms of normal hematopoietic cells and leukemic cells to genotoxic agents and novel therapeutic strategies

    Författare :Andreas Hedblom; Malmö Experimentell cancerforskning; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Hematopoietic stem cells; genotoxic damage; cell cycle; leukemia; heme oxygenase; differentiation;

    Sammanfattning : Hematopoiesis is initiated by a rare population of hematopoietic stem cells (HSC) in the bone marrow (BM). HSCs give rise to red blood cells and white blood cells of myeloid and lymphoid lineages. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Transcriptional control of Bactericidal/permeability increasing protein (BPI) and cathepsin G in myeloid cells

    Författare :Andreas Lennartsson; Avdelningen för hematologi och transfusionsmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; extracellular fluids; Haematology; extracellulära vätskor; Hematologi;

    Sammanfattning : The neutrophil store its effector proteins in several distinct types of cytoplasmic granules, developed sequentially during cell maturation. The different subtypes of granules have unique protein content and functional characteristics. The formation of each granule subtype coincides with the biosynthesis of its content. LÄS MER
