21. Proximity Ligation and Barcoding Assays : Tools for analysis of proteins and protein complexes
Sammanfattning : Proteins are fundamental structural, enzymatic and regulatory components of cells. Analysis of proteins, such as by measuring their concentrations, characterizing their modifications, and detecting their interactions, provides insights in how biological systems work physiologically or pathologically at the molecular level. 22. Biomarkers for Better Understanding of the Pathophysiology and Treatment of Chronic Pain : Investigations of Human Biofluids
Sammanfattning : Chronic pain affects 20 % of the global population, causes suffering, is difficult to treat, and constitutes a large economic burden for society. So far, the characterization of molecular mechanisms of chronic pain-like behaviors in animal models has not translated into effective treatments. LÄS MER
23. Molecular Tools for Detection and Characterization of Proteins and Extracellular Vesicles in Health and Disease
Sammanfattning : Detecting molecules involved in cancer is critical for cancer research and diagnostics. To achieve this goal, sensitive protein detection is essential to improving the chances of finding, verifying, validating and developing valuable biomarkers. LÄS MER
24. Effects of Antioxidants and Pro-oxidants on Oxidative Stress and DNA Damage using the Comet Assay : Studies on Blood Cells from Type 2 Diabetes Subjects and Mouse Lymphoma Cells
Sammanfattning : Diet and oral supplements comprise two distinct sources of antioxidants known to prevent oxidative stress. Beneficial effects from antioxidants have been seen for patients at risk for type 2 diabetes. The aim of this thesis was to evaluate the positive effects of antioxidants against oxidative stress and DNA damage in type 2 diabetes subjects. 25. Development and Application of Proximity Assays for Proteome Analysis in Medicine
Sammanfattning : Along with proteins, a myriad of different molecular biomarkers, such as post-translational modifications and autoantibodies, could be used in an attempt to improve disease detection and progression. In this thesis, I build on several iterations of the proximity ligation assay to develop and apply new adaptable methods to facilitate detection of proteins, autoantibodies and post-translational modifications.
