  2. 22. The Influence of APOE ε4 on the Hippocampus and Hippocampus-Dependent Memory

    Författare :Eva Stening; Hedvig Söderlund; Clare Mackay; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; APOE ε4; episodic memory; spatial memory; hippocampus;

    Sammanfattning : APOE ε4 is the major genetic risk factor for Alzheimer’s disease, a dementia characterized by memory impairment and hippocampal atrophy. While associated with episodic impairment and reduced hippocampal volume in healthy aging, APOE ε4 has been related to increased episodic memory performance in young adults. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Genetic and metabolic studies of APOE, PCSK9, TM6SF2 and PNPLA3

    Författare :Hovsep Mahdessian; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Lipids – including fatty acids (FAs), triglycerides (TGs), cholesterol and cholesterol esters (CEs) – are hydrophobic molecules involved in several important structural and mechanistic processes. Lipids are found in cellular membranes, give posture and stability to the cell, are actively participating in cellular signaling, and act as mediators in several important biological pathways. 4. 24. Risk factors for dementia. Lifestyle, hormones, neurochemistry, and genetics

    Författare :Jenna Najar; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Dementia; Alzheimer s disease; Epidemiology; Marital status; Leisure time activity; Menopause; Polygenic risk scores; APOE genotype;

    Sammanfattning : Objective: The aim of this thesis was to expand the understanding about the effects of lifestyle factors, indicators of endogenous estrogens, and genetic factors on the risk of dementia and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) markers for Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Method: We used population-based samples from the Gothenburg H70 Birth Cohort Studies (H70-studies), the Prospective Population Study of Women (PPSW), and the Mayo Clinic Study of Aging (MCSA 70+ study). 5. 25. Inequity in mind. On the Social and Genetic Risk Factors of Dementia and Their Interactions

    Författare :Caroline Hasselgren; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Dementia; APOE ε4; health inequity; longitudinal population studies; class; sex gender; fundamental cause theory;

    Sammanfattning : The present thesis seeks to further explain the occurrence of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias by studying the long-term impact of class- and gender-based inequities as well as the extent to which they potentially moderate genetic risk. Central to this endeavour is the recognition of social inequity as multifaceted, and of potential intersections between different drivers of structural (dis)advantage in relation to individual health prospects.
