  1. 1. Plasticity and variation of synaptic responses in hippocampus. Role of AMPA and NMDA receptors

    Författare :Yin-Ping Niu; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :learning and memory; synaptic plasticity; hippocampus; synapse; AMPA receptor; NMDA receptor; LTP; LTD; CV; TFS;

    Sammanfattning : It is generally believed that synaptic plasticity in the central nervous system may underlie learning and memory as well as neuronal development. The most wellstudied examples of such synaptic plasticity are long-term potentiation (LTP) andlong-term depression (LTD). LÄS MER

  2. 2. Developmental plasticity of the glutamate synapse: Roles of low frequency stimulation, hebbian induction and the NMDA receptor

    Författare :Joakim Strandberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :AMPA receptor; Development; Glutamate; Hippocampus; Long-term depression; Long-term potentiation; NMDA receptor; Synaptic depression;

    Sammanfattning : The glutamate synapse is by far the most common synapse in the brain and acts via postsynaptic AMPA, NMDA and mGlu receptors. During brain development there is a continuous production of these synapses where those partaking in activity resulting in neuronal activity are subsequently selected to establish an appropriate functional pattern of synaptic connectivity while those that do not are elimimated. 3. 3. Revealing Secrets of Synaptic Protein Interactions : A Biosensor based Strategy

    Författare :Christian Seeger; U Helena Danielson; Sarah Lummis; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surface plasmon resonance; biosensor; AMPA receptor; GABAA receptor; ligand-gated ion channel; A-kinase anchoring protein; caldendrin; calmodulin; HIV; fragment based drug discovery; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Protein interactions are the basis of synaptic function, and studying these interactions on a molecular level is crucial for understanding basic brain function, as well as mechanisms underlying neurological disorders. In this thesis, kinetic and mechanistic characterization of synaptic protein interactions was performed by using surface plasmon resonance biosensor technology. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Beyond AMPA and NMDA: Slow synaptic mGlu/TRPC currents : Implications for dendritic integration

    Författare :Marcus Petersson; Erik Fransén; Abdel El Manira; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; transient receptor potential; TRP; metabotropic glutamate receptor; mGlu1 5; dendritic integration; synaptic activation; temporal summation; low-frequency; entorhinal cortex; mathematical model; computational neuroscience; Computer science; Datavetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : In order to understand how the brain functions, under normal as well as pathological conditions, it is important to study the mechanisms underlying information integration. Depending on the nature of an input arriving at a synapse, different strategies may be used by the neuron to integrate and respond to the input. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Modulation of AMPA glutamate receptor functions in primary neuronal cultures

    Författare :Gvido Cebers; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :glutamate; AMPA; cerebellar granule cells; cortical cells; cyclothiazide; AP-1; transcription factors; receptor desensitization; Ca2 ; neurotoxicity; 45Ca2 uptake; apoptosis; ischemia; muscarinic; carbachol;

    Sammanfattning : Primary neuronal cultures were used to investigate the properties of AMPA receptors and functional consequences of their activation, as well as AMPA receptor desensitization and possibilities for its modulation. We established the presence and spontaneous functional activity of AMPA receptors in cerebellar granule and cortical cell cultures. LÄS MER
