  1. 21. From Betterment to Bt maize : agricultural development and the introduction of genetically modified maize to South African smallholders

    Författare :Klara Fischer; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Agriculture has received renewed attention in poverty reduction efforts in Africa in recent years, and there are hopes that GM crops could have an important role in helping increase smallholder yields and reduce poverty. Drawing on critical discourse analysis (CDA) and livelihoods perspectives, this thesis examines the ideas governing the Massive Food Production Programme (MFPP), an agricultural development programme aiming to reduce poverty by raising agricultural production in Eastern Cape Province, South Africa, and its local effects when implemented in smallholder communities. 2. 22. Phytoremediation of soil contaminated with per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS)

    Författare :Winnie Nassazzi; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are anthropogenic compounds recognised for their persistence, mobility and potential toxicity. This thesis examines the efficacy of phytoremediation as a potential technique for managing PFAS-contaminated soil and groundwater. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Chlorine Cycling in Terrestrial Environments

    Författare :Malin Montelius; David Bastviken; Teresia Svensson; Katarina Abrahamsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chloride; organic chlorine; chlorination; dechlorination; 36Cl; risk assessment modelling; Klorid; organiskt klor; klorering; deklorering; klor-36; riskmodellering;

    Sammanfattning : Chlorinated organic compounds (Clorg) are produced naturally in soil. Formation and degradation of Clorg affect the chlorine (Cl) cycling in terrestrial environments and chlorine can be retained or released from soil. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Process development for platform chemical production from agricultural and forestry residues

    Författare :David Nickel; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biorefinery; pretreatment; lignocellulose; multi-feed SSCF; preadaptation; multi-scale variability analysis; platform chemicals; lactic acid; logging residues; mixed feedstocks; ethanol;

    Sammanfattning : As part of a bio-based economy, biorefineries are envisaged to sustainably produce platform chemicals via biochemical conversion of agricultural and forestry residues. However, supply risks, the recalcitrance of lignocellulosic biomass, and inhibitor formation during pretreatment impair the economic feasibility of such biorefineries. LÄS MER

  5. 25. The complexity of seafood trade relations across scales

    Författare :Laura G. Elsler; Maja Schlüter; Simon A. Levin; Anne-Sophie Crépin; Jennifer Jacquet; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Sustainability Science; vetenskap om hållbar utveckling;

    Sammanfattning : There is growing concern about the unprecedented rise in international seafood trade that relies on increasingly overused and climate-driven fisheries. Seafood trade relations, the multi-dimensional relations between fishers, traders, and countries for seafood exchange and other interactions, are central in the process of globalization. LÄS MER
