6. Molecular changes of acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase in Alzheimer patients during the natural couse of the disease and treatment with cholinesterase inhibitors : insight into neurochemical mechanisms affecting the progression of the disease
Sammanfattning : Deficits in central cholinergic neurotransmission in the brain correlate with cognitive impairment in Alzheimer disease (AD) patients. This fact has resulted in the introduction of cholinesterase inhibitors (ChEls) e.g. LÄS MER
7. Design strategies for new drugs targeting multicomponent systems : focusing on class II MHC proteins and acetylcholinesterase
Sammanfattning : The field of medicinal chemistry is constantly evolving. Aided by advances within techniques as well as knowledge of biological systems, increasingly complex targets and drugs can be considered. LÄS MER
8. Biomarkers and bioindicators of hypoxia and sediment toxicity in Monoporeia affinis
Sammanfattning : Two of the most pressing environmental problems in the Baltic Sea are pollution and oxygen deficiency. The aim of this doctoral thesis was to evaluate a set of biomarkers and reproductive variables in the amphipod Monoporeia affinis to test their suitability as indicators of exposure to contaminants and hypoxia. 9. Pamoplantar Pustulosis. Pathogenetic Studies with Special Reference to the Role of Nicotine
Sammanfattning : Palmoplantar pustulosis (PPP) is a chronic disease of unknown pathogenesis. Most of the patients were smokers. High prevalence of a number of autoimmune diseases was observed among the patients (thyroid disease 14%, gluten intolerance 8%, diabetes type 1 3%). Eosinophils and neutrophils were found in large numbers in the pustules. LÄS MER
10. Recurrent pain and health related quality of life in young schoolchildren
Sammanfattning : The objectives of this thesis were 1) to describe the occurrence and co-occurrence of recurrent pain (headache, stomach-ache, and backache) in young school children; 2) to describe Health Related Quality of Life (HRQoL) in these children, from the perspective of the child, 3) to examine the psychometric properties of the PedsQL, a pediatric HRQoL instrument. Three data collections were performed, two in Umeå, Sweden, and one in a nearby smaller municipality, Lycksele. LÄS MER
