1. Varieties of Necessity in John Buridan : Logic and Natural Philosophy in the Late Middle Ages
Sammanfattning : This dissertation is a study of John Buridan's (c.1300-c.1361) conception of modalities. Modal concepts - concepts of necessity, possibility, impossibility, and contingency - describe the ways in which things could and could not be otherwise. LÄS MER
2. In Want of a Sovereign : Metapolitics and the Populist Formation of the Alt-Right
Sammanfattning : The thesis examines the politico-rhetorical dynamics around the 2016 US presidential election through the lens of the Alt-Right, not as a movement but as a signifier in broader political struggles to shape the political space of representation. It employs Ernesto Laclau’s post-foundationalist theory of populism to challenge the conventional perspectives that the Alt-Right was an extension of a radical right-wing movement or ideology. 3. Studies of molecular mechanisms of telomere maintenance in Naumovozyma castellii
Sammanfattning : Telomeres are special DNA-protein structures that protect ends of chromosomes from being recognized as double-strand breaks. Telomeres consist of tandemly repeated units of TG-rich DNA and associate with telomere-specific proteins. LÄS MER
4. The maintenance of telomeres in the budding yeast Naumovozyma castellii
Sammanfattning : Linear chromosomes of eukaryotic cells require the presence of functional nucleoprotein terminal structures, known as telomeres, to protect the integrity of the genome. The telomere is a highly dynamic and regulated structure constituted by short tandem DNA repeats rich in guanine nucleotides that extent as double-stranded DNA ending in a single-stranded 3′ overhang. 5. Genetic studies of autism and autistic-like traits
Sammanfattning : Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is characterized by impairment in social interaction, language impairment and repetitive behavior with varying degrees of severity. ASD represents the lower end on a continuously distributed measure of autistic-like traits (ALTs). LÄS MER
