1. Adseverin – An Immune-Specific Target of 2,3,7,8-Tetrachlorodibenzo-p-Dioxin
Sammanfattning : The environmental pollutant 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) induces thymus atrophy and immunosuppression in all animal species examined and these effects constitute a potential risk to humans. TCDD can via binding to the intracellular aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR), modulate transcription of a number of genes and the aim of this thesis has been to identify such genes, which may explain the mechanisms behind TCDD-mediated immunotoxicity. 2. Interactions between the environmental pollutant 2,3,7,8- tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin and coxsackievirus infection : Experimental studies in mice
Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on the interactions between 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) and infection. A model of human coxsackievirus type B3 (CB3) infection, adapted to A/J mice, was used. The effects on some immune cell populations and host resistance to CB3 infection were studied immediately after TCDD exposure and 3 months later. 3. Studies on the effects of 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin on vitamin A homeostasis
Sammanfattning : Vitamin A (retinoids) is needed for normal vision, growth, reproduction, cell differentiation, embryonic development, and immune function. Retinoids exert their functions in the same way as classical hormones, as transcription factors acting via nuclear receptors. LÄS MER

5. Effects of 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin on vitamin A storage in rat hepatic stellate cells
Sammanfattning : The polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and dibenzofurans (PCDFs), popularly called dioxins, are persistent pollutants with widespread occurrence in the environment as well as in human food and tissues. 2,3,7,8-Tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD), the most toxic dioxin, as well as other dioxin-like compounds induce a broad spectrum of biochemical and toxic effects, many of which occur at extremely low doses or concentrations.
