   Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to find out whether other factors than the the light-dark changes influence the function of the pineal gland. Since melatonin (MT) itself, or its precursor serotonin, are of importance for sleep, mood, and pain perception, disease states - or situations in which these functions are disturbed - should be of interest to investigate in this context.
