1. Gut Feelings - From Brain to Gut and from Lumen to Gut
Sammanfattning : Part 1: From Brain to GutThe brain is an organ with a high energy requirement. To meet this demand, the brain needs a continuous and well-regulated blood supply. In situations where the brain, or parts of the brain, does not receive sufficient blood flow injury arise. LÄS MER
2. Tissue remodelling in pulmonary fibrosis linked to 5-HT2 receptor activation
Sammanfattning : After an injury, an immediate reparative response is triggered to replace the damaged tissue, however, in fibrosis, cells remain active despite wound resolution causing a steady build-up of fibrotic tissue. In pulmonary fibrosis, there is a constant regeneration and remodelling of lung tissue where the thin architecture of alveoli become thickened, hampering efficient diffusion of oxygen, as seen in diseases like idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). 3. Spinal cord grafts : interaction with cografts and effects of trophic factors
Sammanfattning : Spinal cord injury is common in the modern society, often afflicts young individuals, and often has devastating consequences. The present work studies possibilities to obtain better conditions for regeneration of the transected spinal cord in rats, conditions under which spinal cord grafts are able to establish structural and functional connections with "natural" targets, and effects of a series of neurotrophic factors on spinal cord graft survival and growth. 4. Spinal motoneurones and the bulbospinal serotonininergic system in aged rats with behavioral deficits
Sammanfattning : The expression of neuropeptides, growth-related proteins and neurotrophin receptors were studied in motoneurons of young adult rats and in aged rats with symptoms of neuromuscular incapacities. Also studied were aging-related changes in the descending serotoninergic (5HT) bulbospinal system which constitutes a major afferent pathway to spinal motoneurons. LÄS MER
5. Cyclic guanosine 3', 5'-monophosphate : studies on synthesis and efflux from hepatocytes, liver slices and cerebellar slices and on serotonin-mediated cGMP synthesis in human platelets
Sammanfattning : The present study established the existence of a carrier mediated transport of 3'5' cGMP from rat liver slices, hepatocytes and cerebellar slices in which the cellular levels of 3'5' cGMP were elevated by application of appropriate stimuli and inhibitors of the 3'5' cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase. The carrier is specific for 3'5' cGMP as opposed to 3'5' cAMP. LÄS MER
