  1. 16. Spinal Acetylcholine Release : Mechanisms and Receptor Involvement

    Författare :Mahinda Kommalage; Urban Höglund; Ernst Brodin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurosciences; acetylcholine release; spinal antinociception; nicotinic receptor; serotonin; GABA; Neurovetenskap; Neurology; Neurologi;

    Sammanfattning : Impulses coming from peripheries are modified in the spinal cord and transmitted to the brain. Several neurotransmitters have been involved in the processing of impulses in the spinal dorsal horn. Acetylcholine (ACh) is one of many neurotransmitters involved in the regulation of nociception in the spinal cord. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Neuroendocrinology of agonostic interaction and social signalling in Artic charr (Salvelinus alpinus) : Studies on the neuroendocrine regulation of aggressive behaviour, stress responses and skin colour

    Författare :Erik Höglund; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Developmental biology; Brain monoamines; social signalling; POMC; skin colour; stress; Salmonid; Utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi; limnologi; Limnology;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis shows that socially subordinate Arctic charr (Salvelinus alpinus) display elevated brain serotonergic (5-HT) and norepinephric activity along with a chronic activation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-interrenal (HPI) axis, including elevated plasma concentrations of á-MSH. Furthermore, subordinate fish showed an inhibition of aggressive behaviour and darker body coloration, skin darkness being positively correlated with plasma á-MSH. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Emerging pharmacotherapies for Parkinson's Disease: Experimental studies in the rat

    Författare :Hanna Iderberg; Basala gangliernas patofysiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Parkinson s Disease; L-DOPA; L-DOPA-induced dyskinesia; rat model of Parkinson s disease; behavioural pharmacology;

    Sammanfattning : Parkinson´s disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by the typical motor symptoms, akinesia/bradykinesia, rigidity and resting tremor. These symptoms are caused by a deficiency of dopamine (DA) in the brain, which depends on degeneration of DA neurons in the substantia nigra. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Central nervous system targets for micturition control

    Författare :Rikard Pehrson; Avdelningen för klinisk kemi och farmakologi; []

    Sammanfattning : Normal urine storage and bladder emptying are controlled by the central (CNS) as well as the peripheral nervous system. Dysfunction of these mechanisms can lead to urinary incontinence. Urinary tract dysfunctions have symptomatically been treated mainly with drugs acting peripherally. LÄS MER

  5. 20. A PET study on dopamine and serotonin receptor binding in the primate brain : challenges with antipsychotic drugs and amphetamine

    Författare :Yuan-Hwa Chou; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The brain imaging technique positron emission tomography (PET) has been applied to study dopamine and serotonin neurotransmission. In schizophrenia research, an important observation is that patients with schizophrenia, when compared with controls, have higher amphetamine induced dopamine release in the striatum. LÄS MER
