  1. 6. 4D flow MRI and modelling to assess cerebral arterial hemodynamics : method development and evaluation, with implementation in patients with symptomatic carotid stenosis

    Författare :Madelene Holmgren; Anders Eklund; Jan Malm; Anders Wåhlin; Sara Qvarlander; Ronnie Wirestam; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; 4D flow MRI; carotid stenosis; cerebral blood flow; cerebral arterial compliance; cerebrovascular resistance; circleof Willis; computational fluid dynamics; magnetic resonance imaging; stroke; vascular disease; Neurology; neurologi;

    Sammanfattning : Blood flow measurements are important for understanding the development of cerebrovascular diseases. With 4D flow magnetic resonance imaging (4D flow MRI), simultaneous velocity measurements are obtained in all cerebral arteries in a scan of about ten minutes. However, 4D flow MRI is a relatively new technique. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Towards Personalized Models of the Cardiovascular System Using 4D Flow MRI

    Författare :Belén Casas Garcia; Tino Ebbers; Jonas Lantz; Petter Dyverfeldt; Carljohan Carlhäll; Frans van de Vosse; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Magnetic resonance imaging; 4D Flow MRI; Computational modelling; Blood flow; Hemodynamics;

    Sammanfattning : Current diagnostic tools for assessing cardiovascular disease mostly focus on measuring a given biomarker at a specific spatial location where an abnormality is suspected. However, as a result of the dynamic and complex nature of the cardiovascular system, the analysis of isolated biomarkers is generally not sufficient to characterize the pathological mechanisms behind a disease. Sammanfattning : Throughout the last century, medical imaging has come to revolutionise the way we diagnose disease, and is today an indispensable part of virtually any clinical practice. In cardiovascular care imaging is extensively utilised, and the development of novel techniques promises refined diagnostic abilities: ultrasound elastography allows for constitutive tissue assessment, 4D flow magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) enables full-field flow mapping, and micro-Computed Tomography (CT) permits high-resolution imaging at pre-clinical level. 4. 9. Cerebral blood flow and intracranial pulsatility studied with MRI : measurement, physiological and pathophysiological aspects

    Författare :Anders Wåhlin; Anders Eklund; Jan Malm; Richard Birgander; William G Bradley; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Arterial Pulsatility; cerebrospinal fluid; cerebral blood flow; venous flow; intracranial pressure; pulse pressure; dementia; hippocampus; multiple sclerosis; magnetic resonance imaging; radiofysik; radiation physics;

    Sammanfattning : During each cardiac cycle pulsatile arterial blood inflates the vascular bed of the brain, forcing cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and venous blood out of the cranium. Excessive arterial pulsatility may be part of a harmful mechanism causing cognitive decline among elderly. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Fast and Accurate 4D Flow MRI for Cardiovascular Blood Flow Assessment

    Författare :Sven Petersson; Tino Ebbers; Oliver Wieben; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Sammanfattning : The study of blood flow is essential in understanding the physiology and pathophysiology of the cardiovascular system. Small disturbances of the blood flow may over time evolve and contribute to cardiovascular pathology. LÄS MER
