  1. 1. Investigations of temporal changes in climate and the geomagnetic field via high-resolution radiocarbon dating

    Författare :Anette Mellström; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; wiggle-matching; Radiocarbon dating; 14C; 2800 cal BP; climate change; solar activity; palaeomagnetism; lake sediments; varves; post-depositional remanent magnetisation; PDRM; lock-in; peat deposits; Sweden;

    Sammanfattning : Geological archives have shown periods of abrupt climate change in the relatively stable Holocene epoch (last ca. 11 700 years). One of these periods was around 2800 cal BP. Several records, mainly from Europe, reveal a shift towards wetter, cooler and windier conditions. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Subarctic ecosystem responses to climate, catchment and permafrost dynamics in the Holocene

    Författare :Ulla Kokfelt; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; subarctic Sweden; palsa mire development; peat; permafrost history; carbon and nutrient cycling; lake sediments;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis assesses aspects of the wetland development, permafrost dynamics and associated changes in carbon and nutrient cycling of the Stordalen Mire in northern Sweden. Various ecological and biogeochemical analyses of one peat and two lake sediment sequences were conducted, including analyses of organic matter and carbonate content, mosses, diatoms, testate amoebae, pigments, carbon and nitrogen and their stable isotopes, near infrared spectroscopy and biogenic silica. 3. 3. Holocene environmental changes and climate variability in the Eastern Mediterranean : Multiproxy sediment records from the Peloponnese peninsula, SW Greece

    Författare :Christos Katrantsiotis; Stefan Wastegård; Rienk Smittenberg; Jan Risberg; Elin Norström; Sherilyn Fritz; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mediterranean; Greece; Peloponnese; Holocene; sediments; diatoms; n-alkanes; stable isotopes; tectonics; climate variability; monsoons; NAO; NCP; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis presents multiproxy reconstructions of the mid to late Holocene climate and environmental changes in the Peloponnese peninsula, SW Greece. The combined dataset consists of diatom, biomarker and X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (XRF) elemental data in radiocarbon-dated sediment cores taken from the Agios Floros fen and the Gialova Lagoon in SW Peloponnese and the Ancient Lake Lerna in NE Peloponnese. 4. 4. Stormy records from peat bogs in south-west Sweden : implications for regional climatic variability and vegetation changes during the past 6500 years

    Författare :Rixt de Jong; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Holocene climate; south-west Sweden; aeolian activity; humidity changes; vegetation development; REVEALS vegetation modelling; atmospheric circulation changes; peat sediments;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis aims to reconstruct and explain variations in storm activity, humidity, vegetation composition and land cover in south-west Sweden during the past 6500 years. Two ombrotrophic bogs, Store Mosse and Undarsmosse, situated on the coastal plain of Halland, were selected for this purpose. LÄS MER

  5. 5. The sensitivity of Swedish alpine lakes to hydro-climatic changes during the Late Holocene

    Författare :Annika Berntsson; Gunhild Rosqvist; Peter G. Langdon; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; alpine lake sediments; temperature reconstruction; precipitation; catchment erosion; chironomids; oxygen isotopes; XRF core scanning; geomorphology; grain size analysis; kvartärgeologi; Quaternary Geology;

    Sammanfattning : The thesis objective is to use lake sediments to investigate the relationships between chironomids, as proxy for temperature, and δ18O and minerogenic in-wash, as precipitation proxies, in northern Sweden during the Late Holocene. Three lakes along a N–S transect in the Scandes were studied using biological, geochemical and physical sediment properties, together with numerical methods. LÄS MER
