21. Transport phenomena in quantum wells and wires in presence of disorder and interactions
Sammanfattning : Present-day electronics employ circuits of smaller and smaller dimensions, and today the length scales are so small that the laws of physics which rule micro-cosmos, quantum mechanics, become directly important. This thesis reports on theoretical work on electron transport in different nanostructures. LÄS MER
22. A Co-Simulation Approach for Hydraulic Percussion Units
Sammanfattning : This Licentiate of Engineering thesis concerns modelling and simulation of hydraulic percussion units. These units are often found in equipment for breaking or drilling in rock and concrete, and are also often driven by oil hydraulics, in which complex fluid-structure couplings are essential for their operation. 23. Modelling impact climate-related change on the thermal responses of lakes
Sammanfattning : In response to climate-related changes, lakes worldwide have experienced warmer surface water temperatures, shorter ice cover periods and changes in lake stratification. As these aspects of lake dynamics exert substantial control over nutrient availability, oxygenation and biogeochemical cycling, predicting changes in lake water temperature and stratification dynamics can improve our understanding of the consequences of warming on lake ecosystems. 24. Orientational dynamics of single molecules applied to protein-DNA target search
Sammanfattning : Cells in all life forms regulate their genes with the help of transcription factors (TFs). These proteins turn genes on or off by binding regulatory motifs present in the DNA. Before this binding can occur, a TF needs to search and find the specific binding site in the genome of the cell. LÄS MER
25. Thermally and Optically Excited Electron Transport in Semiconductor Nanowires
Sammanfattning : This thesis explores the transport of thermally and optically excited electrons invarious nanowire structures. On one hand, electrons are thermally excited when thetemperature is nonzero, and the thermal energy help them surmount energy barriersthat are present in the material. LÄS MER
