1. Road Safety Development Index : Theory, Philosophy and Practice
Sammanfattning : This dissertation develops, presents and tests a new international tool, the so-called Road Safety Development Index (RSDI), which indicates in a comprehensive and easy way the severity of the road safety situation in a specific country and/or in comparison with other countries. There are three pillars of outcomes involved in the framework of RSDI. LÄS MER
2. Statistical modeling and design in forestry : The case of single tree models
Sammanfattning : Forest quantification methods have evolved from a simple graphical approach to complex regression models with stochastic structural components. Currently, mixed effects models methodology is receiving attention in the forestry literature. LÄS MER
3. Thin film growth and characterization of Ti-Si-C MAX-phases
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the growth of Ti-Si-C MAX-phases on A12O3(0001) and MgO(111) substrates with the emphasis on epitaxial Ti3SiC2 thin films by means of DC magnetron sputtering. Ti3SiC2, Ti4SiC3 as well as the two intergrown structures Ti5Si2C3 and Ti7Si2C5 were grown using sputtering from three individual elemental targets of Ti, Si, and C, respectively. LÄS MER
4. Analysis of genetic susceptibility to cervical cancer using candidate gene and GWAS approaches
Sammanfattning : Cervical cancer is the forth most commonly diagnosed cancer among women worldwide. It is caused by persistent infection with an oncogenic type of Human Papillomavirus (HPV). The HPV is a necessary but not sufficient cause of cervical cancer. LÄS MER
5. Carbohydrate-Rich Foods in the Treatment of the Insulin Resistance Syndrome : Studies of the Importance of the Glycaemic Index and Dietary Fibre
Sammanfattning : The glycaemic responses to various carbohydrate-rich foods are partly dependent on the rate at which the carbohydrate is digested and absorbed. The glycaemic index (GI) is a way of ranking foods according to their glycaemic response and is recommended as a useful tool in identifying starch-rich foods that give the most favourable glycaemic response.
