    Sammanfattning : With emerging technologies such as high-definition video, virtual reality, and cloud computing, bandwidth demand in the access networks is ever-increasing. Passive optical network (PON) has become a promising architecture thanks to its low cost and easy management. LÄS MER

  3. 3. High frequency monoloithic integrated circuits for communication systems

    Författare :Mehran Mokhtari; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The wavelengths of interest in today's communication systemfront-ends are in the same order of magnitude as the availabledevices and circuit sizes. So the wave nature of theinformation can not be neglected. LÄS MER

  4. 4. 1060 nm GaAs VCSELs for Extended Reach Optical Interconnects in Data Centers

    Författare :Ewa Simpanen; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; high-speed modulation; reach; vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser; multi-mode; single-mode; optical interconnect; chromatic dispersion; attenuation;

    Sammanfattning : The data centers of today are increasing in size and are built to accommodate strong data traffic demands while providing sustainably by having clients sharing resources under one roof. Their massive scale puts pressure on the server network topology and has incited a need for data transmission links that are energy efficient and capable to operate at high bit rates with reach up to a few kilometers. Författare :Jie Li; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; nonlinear distortion; optical pulse shaping; dispersion-management; eye-diagram; cross-phase modulation; optical sampling; optical fiber applications; multiplexing; parametric amplification; demultiplexing; optical pulses; fiber optical communication; nonlinear systems; time division multiplexing; four-wave mixing; polarization-mode dispersion; optical signal processing; fiber optical nonlinearities; fiber ring laser; soliton robustness; mode-locking; optical filters; networks;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with short optical pulse generation from actively mode-locked Erbium-doped fiber ring lasers (ML-EFRL) and their applications in all-optical signal processing (optical sampling and switching) and transmission experiments for high-capacity fiber optic systems. In future ultra-high bit-rate optical time division multiplexed (OTDM) systems, one of the key requirements is to develop reliable optical pulse sources that can generate high quality optical pulses.
