  1. 1. Metabolic Engineering of Synechocystis PCC 6803 for Butanol Production

    Författare :Rui Miao; Peter Lindblad; Pia Lindberg; Felix Ho; Shota Atsumi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Synechocystis PCC 6803; biofuel; isobutanol; 1-butanol; metabolic engineering; protein engineering; Biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : There is an urgent demand for renewable alternatives to fossil fuels since the extraction and utilization cause a series of environmental problems in the world. Thus, the utilization of solar energy has attracted much attention in the last decades since there is excess amount of light on Earth. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Volatile metabolites from microorganisms in indoor environments : sampling, analysis and identification

    Författare :Anna-Lena Sunesson; Alvin Fox; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Adsorbents; Analysis; Cultivation; Determination; Gas chromatography; Identification; Indicator substances; Indoor air; Mass spectrometry; Metabolites; Microbial volatile organic compounds; Optimization; Sampling; Sick buildings; Thermal desorption; Aspergillus versicolor; Cladosporium cladosporioides; Paecilomyces variotii; Pénicillium commune; Phialophora fastigiata; Streptomyces albidoflavus;

    Sammanfattning : Microorganisms are able to produce a wide variety of volatile organic compounds. This thesis deals with sampling, analysis and identification of such compounds, produced by microorganisms commonly found in buildings. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Self-rated health and respiratory symptoms among civil aviation pilots : Occupational and non-occupational risk factors

    Författare :Xi Fu; Dan Norbäck; Christer Janson; Berndt Stenberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Civil Aviation; Aircraft pilot; Indoor environment; Self-rated health SRH ; Respiratory health; Asthma; Rhinitis; Headache; Fatigue; Insom-nia; Body mass index BMI ; Sense of Coherence SOC ; Psychosocial work environment; Quantitative PCR; Fungal DNA; Volatile organic compounds of microbial origin MVOC ; Cat allergen; Dog allergen; Horse allergen;

    Sammanfattning : There is concern about the indoor environment in aircraft but few stud-ies exist on self-rated health (SRH) and respiratory symptoms among pilots. Occupational and non-occupational risk factors for SRH, respira-tory symptoms and other symptoms among commercial pilots were investigated in this thesis. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : The pine weevil (Hylobius abietis L.) is one of the two topmost economically important insect pests in Swedish conifer forests. The damage increase in areas were the silvicultural practice is to use clear cuttings were the insects gather and breed. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Forensic taphonomy in an indoor setting : Implications for estimation of the post-mortem interval

    Författare :Ann-Sofie Ceciliason; Ingemar Thiblin; Håkan Sandler; M. Gunnar Andersson; Anders Lindström; Niels Lynnerup; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Forensic taphonomy; Indoor setting; Post-mortem interval estimation; Hepatic decomposition score; Total body score; microbial neoformation; Rättsmedicin; Forensic Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to determine if and how taphonomic data can be used to expand our knowledge concerning the decompositional process in an indoor setting, as well as adapting scoring-based methods for quantification of human decomposition, to increase the precision of post-mortem interval (PMI) estimates.In the first paper, the established methods of Total Body Score (TBS) and Accumulated Degree-Days (ADD) were investigated in an indoor setting, with results indicating a fairly low precision.
