6. Fruit wastes to biomaterials : Development of biofilms and 3D objects in a circular economy system
Sammanfattning : To address the current plastic pollution problem, the replacement of conventional plastics with bioplastics can be considered. Although the land use of crop cultivation for bioplastics is still negligible, there is an increasing interest in the utilisation of lignocellulosic waste products for the production of bioplastics. 7. Vascular Wall Responses to Bypass Grafting - Studies in Mice
Sammanfattning : Abstract Vein grafts are frequently used in bypass surgery for treatment of coronary artery disease and lower limb ischemia. Unfortunately the long-term patency is impaired by vein graft stenoses due to intimal hyperplasia (IH). It is assumed that exaggerated intimal thickening is initiated by vessel wall injuries or local flow disturbances. LÄS MER
8. Towards Functional Nanopores Using Polymers
Sammanfattning : In nature there are several examples of nanometer sized gateways able to control the passage of molecules and other substances with remarkable precision. This has inspired research in trying to create nanoscale openings which resemble such gateways. LÄS MER
9. Enhancing UV-protection of clear coated wood by utilizing reactive UV-absorber and epoxyfunctionalized soybean oil
Sammanfattning : This work presents the development of a new pretreatment for clear coated wood, that aims to increase the photoprotection of exterior wood products, and at the same time make the system more environmentally friendly. The pretreatment comprises the reactive UV absorber 2-hydroxy-4(2,3-epoxypropoxy)-benzophenone (HEPBP), which has a primary epoxy group that can be covalently attached to the hydroxyl groups of the wood substrate. 10. Tailoring Surface Properties of Bio-Fibers via Atom Transfer Radical Polymerization
Sammanfattning : The potential use of renewable, bio-based polymers in high-technological applications has attracted great interest due to increased environmental concern. Cellulose is the most abundant biopolymer resource in the world, and it has great potential to be modified to suit new application areas. LÄS MER
