11. Probing Interactions between Bio-Fibre Components
12. Towards cell replacement therapy in Parkinson’s disease. Proteoglycans and Nogo-A as modulators of axonal growth in midbrain dopaminergic neurons
Sammanfattning : Parkinson’s disease (PD) is currently the second most common neurodegenerative disorder (after Alzheimer’s disease). PD is diagnosed on its motor symptoms, which include akinesia, bradykinesia, rigidity, postural imbalance and resting tremor. It is well established that the motor symptoms develop due to lack of dopamine in the striatum. LÄS MER
13. Polymer Nanocomposites in Thin Film Applications
Sammanfattning : The introduction of a nanoscopic reinforcing phase to a polymer matrix offers great possibilities of obtaining improved properties, enabling applications outside the boundaries of traditional composites. The majority of the work in this thesis has been devoted to polymer/clay nanocomposites in coating applications, using the hydroxyl-functional hyperbranched polyester Boltorn® as matrix and montmorillonite clay as nanofiller. 14. Chemical Pathways for Galactoglucomannan-based Materials
Sammanfattning : Polysaccharides are an important resource for a variety of products, from food via fuel supply to functional materials of every kind. Due to their natural diversity they can be found in many special applications, e.g. in the biomedical sector and are the major renewable resource for materials of many kinds. LÄS MER
15. Betulin-modified cellulosic textile fibers with improved water repellency, hydrophobicity and antibacterial properties
Sammanfattning : Textiles made from natural sources, such as cotton and flax, have advantages over those made of synthetic fibers in terms of sustainability. Unlike major synthetic fibers that have a negative impact on the environment due to poor biodegradability, cotton cellulose is a renewable material. LÄS MER
