  1. 1. X-ray and neutron μCT of biomedical samples: from image acquisition to quantification

    Författare :Niccoló Peruzzi; Lund Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; x-ray imaging; neutron imaging; μCT; synchrotron radiation; x-ray phase-contrast; nanoholotomography; x-ray elemental mapping; biomedical applications; virtual histology; biodegradable implants; Mg-alloys; enteric nervous system; peripheral neuropathy; gastroenteric dysmotility; Fysicumarkivet A:2021:Peruzzi;

    Sammanfattning : Even though the validity of x-ray computed tomography in the analysis of biomedical samples is nowadays undisputed, the more recent imaging techniques and more advanced instruments (such as synchrotrons) are still relatively unknown to many medical doctors that could benefit from them.The doctoral work presented in this thesis joins a collective effort from the imaging community to demonstrate potential applications of advanced x-ray and neutron imaging methods to preclinical medical research, with the hope of contributing to reach a “critical mass” in the medical community and in the public opinion as well. 2. 2. X-ray Phase Contrast Tomography : Setup and Scintillator Development

    Författare :Hanna Dierks; NanoLund: Centre for Nanoscience; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; x-rays; x-ray imaging; x-ray microscopy; X-ray detectors; perovskites; laboratory setups; phase contrast; μCT; scintillator; Phase contrast PC ; Tomography x-ray computed ;

    Sammanfattning : X-ray microscopy and micro-tomography (μCT) are valuable non-destructive examination methods in many disciplines such as bio-medical research, archaeometry, material science and paleontology. Besides being implemented at synchrotrons radiation sources, laboratory setups using an X-ray tube and high-resolution scintillation detector routinely provide information on the micrometre scale. 3. 3. X-ray microcomputed tomography (µCT) as a potential tool in particle-based geometallurgy

    Författare :Pratama Istiadi Guntoro; Yousef Ghorbani; Jan Rosenkranz; Veerle Cnudde; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; X-ray microcomputed tomography; Mineralogy; Texture; Liberation; Geometallurgy; Mineral Processing; Mineralteknik;

    Sammanfattning : In recent years, automated mineralogy has become an essential tool in geometallurgy. Automated mineralogical tools allows the acquisition of mineralogical, textural, and liberation information of ore samples. Such information is essential in the context of geometallurgy where it is needed for estimating the process response of the ores. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Enhancing the stability of probiotics: Freeze-drying and encapsulation

    Författare :Shuai Bai; Avdelningen för livsmedel och läkemedel; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; freeze-drying; lyophilization; L.ruteri; Probiotics; Lyoprotectant; Structure; Encapsulating material; Pore size; Material thickness; SEM; Tomography; Storage stability; Amorphous sugars; Glass transition temperature; DSC;

    Sammanfattning : This research dives into the intricate world of freeze-drying, an essential process in pharmaceutical and probiotic industries, to better understand the factors affecting probiotic stability during storage. The process of freeze-drying and the composition of freeze-dried products significantly affect the stability of probiotics, yet factors such as the material’s encapsulation properties remain relatively unexplored, demanding further research. 5. 5. The Anabolic - Anti-catabolic Paradigm of Augmenting Skeletal Regeneration: A Bone Quality Perspective

    Författare :Neashan Mathavan; Avdelningen för Biomedicinsk teknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Bone fracture; Fracture healing; bone quality; Bone biomechanics; bone morphogenetic protein-7; Zoledronate; skeletal regeneration;

    Sammanfattning : Successful fracture repair is a complex series of coordinated processes leading to regeneration of new bone to bridge the fracture site, remodelling of the newly formed bone and restoration of skeletal function. Disruption of these processes occurs in approximately 10% of all fractures and leads to delayed or failed healing requiring surgical interventions, increased complication rates, prolonged rehabilitation and high morbidity.
