1. Bioprocess development for biochemical conversion of lignocellulose
Sammanfattning : Due to its low environmental impact and high maturity of the fuel ethanol market, lignocellulosic ethanol is a promising option for reducing the carbon footprint in the transport sector. The characteristics of lignocellulosic feedstocks, such as varied sugar composition, low sugar density, low solubility, recalcitrance to enzymatic degradation, and inhibitors formed during thermochemical pretreatment, have so far limited the production process, and costs for conversion of lignocellulosic materials to ethanol are still high. 2. Cellulose Biosynthesis in Oomycetes
Sammanfattning : Oomycetes have long been considered as a separate class within the kingdom Fungi, but they are in fact closer to brown algae. They are currently classified in the Stramenopile eukaryotic kingdom, which includes heterokont algae and water molds. LÄS MER
3. Accumulation, Boundaries, Capabilities and Dynamics - Explaining Firm Growth
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis is to further develop the theoretical understanding of the growth of knowledge intensive business organizations. The overall aim is to understand the growth challenges of emerging firms in the knowledge-based economy. In particular this thesis addresses several aspects of the growth of small bioscience based firms. LÄS MER
4. Fighting flameless fires : Initiating and extinguishing self-sustainedsmoldering fires in wood pellets
Sammanfattning : Smoldering fires represent domestic, environmental and industrial hazards. This flameless form of combustion is more easily initiated than flaming, and is also more persistent and difficult to extinguish. The growing demand for non-fossil fuels has increased the use of solid biofuels such as biomass. LÄS MER
5. Discovery and applications of family AA9 lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases
Sammanfattning : Auxililary activity family 9 lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases (abbreviated as AA9s or LPMO9s) are fungal mono-copper enzymes capable of oxidatively cleaving various plant cell wall oligo- and/or polysaccharides. LPMO9s are key components of lignocellulolytic enzyme cocktails used in today’s biorefineries to break down biomass into fermentable sugars. LÄS MER
